Job Description Summary: |
The Library Associate position serves as a bridge between the library administration and library users by ensuring that information about buildings and services is always accurate, relevant, and user-friendly. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Student Success and Scholarly Technology, the Library Associate II is responsible for outreach to the GW community, including undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff. This position is part of the Libraries and Academic Innovation (
LAI) organization, working to connect
LAI departments and staff to library users to ensure positive student and faculty experiences in using
LAI services.
The Library Associate:
* Is responsible for maintaining current, accurate, relevant, and user-friendly content on all
LAI websites, including library@gwu.edu and academiccommons@gwu.edu.
* Serves as a liaison to understand user needs for LAI's information and the various units in
LAI who maintain that information. Ensures the quality, usability, and accessibility of
LAI websites by using SiteImprove (or other tool(s), conducting thorough regression testing, collaborating with teams in
LAI to ensure that their information is up to date, and organizing and conducting all aspects of regular usability testing for
LAI online environments.
* Answers inquiries from the
LAI community via multiple channels, including email, and proactively provides information about
LAI services via orientations and outreach activities.
* Oversees
LAI social media accounts, including managing the @gelmanlibrary account, approving and monitoring all other
LAI accounts, training the managers of other social media accounts on GW standards and best practices. Stays coordinated with GW Communications on all social media postings.
* Designs, edits, and delivers regular internal communications through channels such as a newsletter to ensure librarians and staff are fully informed of policies and events.
* Ensures that building signage, including digital signage, is always correct, updated, and meets the needs of users.
* Develops written and visual content for
LAI internal newsletters, programs, InfoMails, website, presentations and other deliverables for print, digital and social platforms.
* Coordinates an extensive workshop program, including accepting workshop proposals, scheduling the workshops, making sure workshops are accurately added to the website, and assisting workshop presenters with questions or problems.
* Coordinates faculty outreach activities to include contacting departments, scheduling, and reminding teams who are working on the outreach.
* Serves as the on-site contact for GW Events for events held in the Gelman Library building, coordinates room scheduling with GW Events, and ensures compliance with all events policies and guidelines.
The position is based at GW's Foggy Bottom Campus in Washington, DC and may travel occasionally. The incumbent may perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position. |
Minimum Qualifications: |
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. |

Preferred Qualifications: |
* Meticulous attention to detail
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Strong organizational skills and the ability to think through projects and timelines. Able to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines
* Previous experience with updating information on websites
* Previous professional experience in a higher education or library environment
* Strong computer and software skills to include use of content management software to edit online content, use of google documents and folders, and various social media channels.
* Familiarity with Adobe InDesign and Illustrator or desire to learn
* Demonstrated experience with graphic design to support library outreach activities.
* Experience using Drupal or another content management system and ability to train library staff to add/edit content.
* Previous experience organizing, conducting, and facilitating usability testing with library website users |
