Summary:

The FVP Commercial Lender is a senior-level role responsible for originating, underwriting, and managing a diverse portfolio of commercial loans, typically ranging from $100 to $150 million. This position plays a key role in driving business growth through proactive relationship development, credit analysis, and portfolio management. In this role, you will be accountable for structuring complex loan transactions, ensuring compliance with regulatory and internal policies, and maintaining high credit quality. With a strong focus on customer service and community engagement, the role also involves cross-selling bank products, participating in civic activities, and enhancing the bank's visibility in the market. This position requires a high degree of independence, strategic decision-making, and the ability to influence financial outcomes through sound credit judgment and business development expertise. This position is based at our executive offices in Holyoke, MA with on-site presence required and flexibility for remote work as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Originate and underwrite commercial loans across diverse industries, generating $10-$30 million in new loan volume annually; conduct applicant interviews, analyze creditworthiness, and structure competitive loan terms aligned with bank policy.
  • Lead proactive business development efforts to cultivate new commercial relationships and expand existing ones, contributing to portfolio growth in alignment with the bank's strategic goals.
  • Manage a high-value commercial loan portfolio exceeding $100 million, ensuring strong credit quality through ongoing monitoring, risk rating, and early identification of potential credit deterioration.
  • Deliver exceptional client service while identifying cross-sell opportunities for bank products and services, including deposit solutions tailored to client needs.
  • Oversee the preparation and execution of loan documentation, ensuring accuracy, regulatory compliance, and proper lien perfection on pledged collateral.
  • Represent the bank in the community by actively participating in civic, philanthropic, and professional events to enhance visibility and strengthen local relationships.
  • Complete yearly compliance training and adhere to bank policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 8+ years of relevant experience

Skills Required:

  • Language: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Capable of responding to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Proficient in effectively presenting information to the leadership team, public groups, and boards of directors.
  • Quantitative: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as interest, proportions, and percentages.
  • Reasoning: Ability to define broad problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Other Skills and Knowledge: Ability to learn new products and make connections for cross-selling, as well as strong communication and presentation skills.

Computer/Technical Skills:

  • Knowledge of computer applications, including Word and Excel
