We're looking for an experienced Senior DevOps Engineer to join our high-performing software engineering team and contribute to building innovative digital media products and experiences for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC). This is a hands-on, collaborative role that supports our mission to deliver exceptional content experiences to our audience.

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you will:

  • Play a pivotal role in building and maintaining AJC's digital products and services across multiple CMS platforms (e.g., ArcXP, Payload), web/app platforms, and cloud ecosystems (e.g., AWS, Vercel).
  • Leverage AI tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Amazon Q, Claude) to enhance development speed and system reliability.
  • Lead CI/CD efforts and improve deployment speed, reliability, and infrastructure resilience.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to shape technical strategy, scope projects, and drive delivery.
  • Provide guidance through code reviews, 1:1 mentoring, and team knowledge-sharing sessions.
  • Troubleshoot high-priority production issues and act as a first responder during outages or performance incidents.
  • Champion DevOps best practices, from infrastructure automation to proactive monitoring and observability improvements.
  • Support QA and testing pipelines, working with product and engineering to ensure smooth releases.


What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline and 4 years' experience in a related field. The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as a master's degree and 2 years' experience; a Ph.D. and up to 1 year of experience; or 8 years' experience in a related field
  • Strong experience with DevOps in cloud-based environments (AWS, Vercel, etc.).
  • Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript and frameworks such as Next.js, React, React Native.
  • Experience building and supporting CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and system monitoring tools.
  • Comfortable working in Agile environments with tools like Jira, Git, CLI, and GitHub Actions (or similar).
  • Proven ability to transform complex UX/UI into performant, maintainable code.
  • Experience leveraging AI tools to optimize workflows and improve code quality.
  • Excellent communication skills and a strong team-first mindset.

USD 99,000.00 - 165,000.00 per year

Compensation:

Compensation includes a base salary of $99,000.00 - $165,000.00. The base salary may vary within the anticipated base pay range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include an incentive program.

Benefits:

The Company offers eligible employees the flexibility to take as much vacation with pay as they deem consistent with their duties, the company's needs, and its obligations; seven paid holidays throughout the calendar year; and up to 160 hours of paid wellness annually for their own wellness or that of family members. Employees are also eligible for additional paid time off in the form of bereavement leave, time off to vote, jury duty leave, volunteer time off, military leave, and parental leave.
