Moog Space and Defense Group (SDG) is projecting significant growth driven by high levels of U.S. Department of Defense investments and the continued human exploration of space. The East Aurora, NY Space Fluid Controls team supplies a variety of complex chemical, electrical, and cold gas propulsion products in addition to critical life support components.

The Senior Project Engineering Manager position oversees project engineers working new hardware development programs, with accountability for technical and engineering execution. This position will provide both engineering and people leadership to our team. You will report to the Staff Project Engineering Manager and manage a team of approximately 7-10 engineers. You will be expected to collaborate with engineering staff that report to other engineering managers for resource management and continuous improvement across SDG. There will be direct charging work and limited work on organizational improvement initiatives in addition to people management.

To be considered for the Senior Project Engineering Manager role, here's what you need to bring with you:

  • The ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline. Advanced degree (MS, MBA, Ph.D) and PMP certification are pluses.
  • At least 10 years of progressive engineering experience with 3 years leading projects.
  • Experience mentoring or facilitating the personal or professional development of others. Previous direct management experience is strongly preferred but not required.
  • Experience executing programs following a phased (gated) program/project life cycle such as NASA Space Flight Project Life Cycle, Moog Design and Development Process or other similar processes.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and experience with Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS).
  • Experience interfacing with aerospace or defense customers is preferred; strong verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Project or comparable scheduling software.
  • Experience with Teamcenter or other Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools.
  • Experience influencing across departmental groups for support in execution is a plus.

As a Senior Project Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing personal development for assigned direct reports by conducting performance reviews, training, mentoring, and monitoring career development.
  • Delegating the timely assignment of direct reports to programs and monitoring to ensure completion within technical, cost, and schedule constraints.
  • Providing technical leadership and guidance to development program teams and personnel. This will include direct support of Fluid Controls development programs as needed.
  • Assessing performance of programs in your purview and advocating for program interests across the business.
  • Assisting in the identification and creation of new engineering processes and initiatives to support the business.
  • Improving existing engineering processes to better meet site goals and customer needs.

Salary Range Transparency:

Buffalo, NY $125,000.00-$145,000.00 Annually

Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range(s) listed is just one component of Moog's total compensation package for employees.
