Winding Machine Operator
Overview of the role
The Fiber Optical Coil Winding Machine Operator is responsible for operating a precision winding machine to produce high-quality fiber optic coils used in gyroscope applications. The role involves setting up, monitoring, and maintaining winding processes to ensure the fiber optical coils meet exact specifications and performance standards.
Responsibilities
* Set up and calibrate fiber optic coil winding machines including the spooler and winder, according to production specifications
* Load optical fibers and materials into the machines with care to avoid damage or contamination
* Perform winding operations to ensure consistent tension, alignment, and coil integrity
* Perform in-process inspections using microscopes and measurement tools to verify quality
* Adjust machine settings as needed to maintain optimal performance and product quality
* Handle delicate fibers with precision to prevent breakage and other defects
* Document production data, machine settings, and quality inspection results
* Perform basic maintenance, cleaning, and troubleshooting of spooler and winding machine
* Follow safety procedures and cleanroom protocols to maintain a controlled manufacturing environment.
Working conditions
* Work performed in a cleanroom and controlled environment with requirements for gowning and contamination control
* Extended periods of standing at winding station
* Handling of delicate, small-diameter optical fibers under magnification
Requirements
* High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training preferred
* Previous experience in fiber optics, electronics, or precision manufacturing environments is desirable
* Knowledge of parts inspection and statistical process control.
* One to three years' experience in fiber optic winding and spooling
* Ability to read work instructions, technical drawings and follow quality standards
* Excellent manual dexterity and attention to detail for handling delicate materials
* Familiarity with microscopes, precision measurement tools, and cleanroom practices
* Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
* Requires the working knowledge of and use of hand tools, power tools, microscope, and electronic equipment.
* Worked in a clean room environment
* Must be a US Citizen
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in New Jersey is $22.00 - $33.00 hourly. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to job-related knowledge and skills, experience, and internal consistency.
