Primary Responsibilities for the Technician III-Met Lab:
- Prepares samples for analysis/examination and carries out a diversified range of complex metallurgical services.
- Has thorough knowledge of specific testing areas and can complete all
testing with no supervision. - Perform various mechanical tests on specialized equipment, such as
hardness testing, tension, tensile, resistivity etc. - Perform various metallographic and magnetic tests using etchants, polishing equipment and specialized metallographic equipment.
- Collect and record test data obtained during the evaluation.
- Makes recommendation to supervision based on recorded test data.
- Also responsible for tasks related to directing, training and coordinating the day-to-day activities of the Met Lab within the specific testing area.
- Developing knowledge of testing procedures in other areas and may be able to complete testing in these areas.
- Perform all other duties and special projects assigned.
Requirements for the Technician III-Met Lab:
- High school diploma required.
- Three or more years of relevant experience.
- Has developed specialized knowledge and skills in own department or area; is fully proficient.
- Applies knowledge/skills to a range of activities; acts as a technical resource
to others in own department or area. Specialized knowledge of metallurgical principles, standards, methods and practices. Specialized knowledge of metallurgical/laboratory equipment. - Solves moderately complex problems; makes recommendations to improve standard procedures and/or processes.
- Anticipates and understands customer needs and identifies solutions to nonstandard requests.
- Manages own time to meet objectives and is proactive in offering help to others.
- Contributes to achievement of team goals within own area or department; promotes
teamwork through understanding of broader team goals. - Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions, to perform assignments of a broader, wider range and work of a more complex
nature, to operate advanced metallurgical/laboratory equipment, to work in a production-oriented environment, and to work with minimal supervision. - Excellent Verbal and written communication skills.
- Problem solving skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
