Great Hill Solutions, LLC is seeking a qualified Microbiologist II to support the CDC. The Microbiologist II will contribute to laboratory diagnostic, immunological, virological, and sequencing efforts to detect, characterize, and monitor respiratory viruses. This role is critical to advancing public health science and ensuring preparedness and response capabilities for respiratory virus outbreaks.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform molecular assays to detect, type, and characterize respiratory viruses and viral vaccine preventable diseases.
- Design, evaluate, and distribute diagnostic platforms for the detection of COVID and other respiratory viruses.
- Participate in burden of disease and etiology studies to investigate associations and causes of respiratory viruses.
- Work within guidelines of auditing bodies such as CMS or CAP and contribute to laboratory safety and quality management systems.
- Draft SOPs, worksheets, job aids, validation plans, and validation reports.
- Maintain medical clearance for laboratory work, including respiratory fit testing.
- Perform serological surveillance and assessment of vaccine response using single or multiplex formats.
- Develop new serological assays and perform advanced cellular immunological assessments.
- Generate and characterize respiratory virus isolates and develop monoclonal antibodies.
- Perform assays to characterize neutralizing antibodies and advanced molecular detection and sequencing assays.
- Adapt molecular techniques to automated platforms and support pathogen discovery approaches.
- Prepare documentation for audits, maintain laboratory records, and contribute to scientific publications and presentations.
Required Qualifications:
- BA/BS with 3-10+ years' experience, MS with 0-7+ years' experience or PhD with 0-3+ years' experiencein the scientific field, including microbiologist, research microbiologist, biologist, health scientist or related field (preferably in a public health setting).
Desired Qualifications:
- Knowledge of and experience working with clinical data.
- Knowledge of and experience working with human specimens.
- Knowledge and experience of sequencing assays and sequencing platforms.
- Expertise in the use of Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook Mail).
- Ability to identify gaps in existing resources.
- Ability to be flexible.
- Interpersonal communication: telephone, email, and business etiquette.
- Scientific communication: manuscript writing, figure drafting, and verbal presentation.
- Strong proofreading skill and attention to detail.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Experience working with CDC staff at multiple organizational levels.
