The City of Minneapolis Elections & Voter Services is a division of the Office of the City Clerk whose purpose is to support access to local government. We administer local, state, and federal elections for Minneapolis voters. We are hiring for Absentee Voting Team Member (up to 12 positions) The City Clerk's Office is looking to fill up to twelve (12) temporary Absentee Voting Team Member (Seasonal Elections Support Specialist) positions to: provide customer service, assist voters, provide election information to the public, prepare election materials, process applications for absentee ballots, process voted absentee ballots, enter and look up data in the Statewide Voter Registration System (SVRS), answer phones, and perform associated clerical work as needed. These individuals will be assigned to work in either the: In-person, Mail, or Health Care Facility area of absentee voting. These are full-time (30-50+ hours per week), temporary positions scheduled for September 8, 2025 - November 14, 2025 covering the following scheduled election:
- November 4, 2025, Municipal General Election
Hours may fluctuate based on operational needs. Will involve evening and weekend hours, as needed, especially in the final week(s) leading up to each Election Day.
Work Location:
This position will work onsite at Minneapolis Elections and Voter Services: 980 E Hennepin Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55414.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

- Absentee voting (in-person): Check-in voters, provide assistance, issue ballots, and process voting materials for in-person early voters.
- Absentee voting (mail): Process requests for absentee ballots and prepare ballots to go out in the mail, process ballots returned in the mail, and prepare mail ballots for tabulation.
- Absentee voting (Health Care Facility): Provide support to absentee voting at healthcare facilities and participate in the preparation for site visits including application processing voter packet assembly
- Process a high volume of time sensitive election material.
- Perform data entry where details and accuracy are essential.
- Learn and effectively utilize new software systems.
- Provide quality customer service in-person, via phone, and via written communication.
- Work cooperatively as a member of a diverse team.
- Follow statute, law, City code, policy, procedure, and guidelines.
- Inventory, prepare, and categorize election equipment and supplies.
- May be assigned to assist in other programs within elections or within the City Clerk's office as needed.
Working Conditions:
Normal office setting with occasional field work; may involve assignments and travel to and from various Minneapolis Election sites such as additional early vote centers and health care facilities, including outdoor and/or warehouse-related activities.

Required Qualifications

Minimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent; or currently attending high school.
- Eligible to vote in MN:
- Must be at least 18 years of age;
- Able to read, write, and speak English;
- Cannot be a candidate, or the spouse, parent, stepparent, child, stepchild, sibling or step- sibling of a candidate on the ballot;
- Cannot be domiciled, either permanently or temporarily, with any candidate on the ballot and;
- Cannot be a candidate in the election.
OR meet Minnesota State Trainee Election Judge qualifications; Must
- be a U.S. citizen;
- Must be 16 or 17 years of age;
- Able to read, write, and speak English;
- Cannot be a candidate, or the spouse, parent, stepparent, child, stepchild, sibling or step- sibling of a candidate on the ballot;
- Cannot be domiciled, either permanently or temporarily, with any candidate on the ballot and;
- Cannot be a candidate in the election.
Licenses/Certifications:
Election Judge Training provided.
Desired Qualifications:
- Proficiency in Hmong, Somali, Spanish, or Oromo highly desirable to assist voters in translating elections materials.
- Candidates selected for positions that make use of additional language skills may have the opportunity to pass a proficiency test to receive additional language pay.
- Experience working in elections.
- Experience working in customer service roles.

The City has determined that a criminal background check and/or qualifications check may be necessary for certain positions with this job title. Applicants may be required to sign an informed consent form allowing the City to obtain their criminal history and/or verify their qualifications in connection with the position sought. Applicants who do not sign the informed consent form will not be further considered for the position.

- Knowledge of the election process.
- Knowledge of accepted business English usage, punctuation, spelling and math.
- Knowledge of office practices, policies, and procedures as they relate to the assigned program.
- Proficiency on computers, to include word processing, spreadsheets, and database programs.
- Ability to make decisions in accordance with laws, regulations and established departmental policies and apply judgment in interpreting and applying procedures.
