Description

First Merchants Bank is seeking an Interest Rate Hedging Solutions Director to join our team! This person will be a highly skilled and collaborative financial professional to lead the delivery of derivative solutions to bank clients by serving as a key resource for educating, training and supporting our bankers and clients. This role combines client-facing sales and structuring support responsibilities with internal education and enablement, ensuring that bankers are equipped to identify opportunities and deliver value-added risk management solutions.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:



  • Client-Facing Responsibilities

    • Partner/Collaborate with our bankers to lead client education as well as the structuring, pricing, and execution of interest rate risk management solutions for our clients.
    • Provide tailored hedging strategies based on client risk profiles, market conditions, and regulatory considerations.
    • Collaborate with bankers to lead the delivery of competitive pricing and innovative interest rate risk management solutions.
    • Maintain strong relationships with bankers to lead and support delivery, execution and growth of our interest rate risk management program.


  • Internal Enablement & Training

    • Design and deliver training for bankers across regions and client segments on derivative products, market trends, and regulatory impacts.
    • Act as the primary point of contact for bankers seeking support on interest rate management-related client engagements and activities.
    • Conduct workshops, webinars, and one-on-one coaching sessions to build internal capabilities and regional knowledge base.
    • Work closely with Corporate Treasury team on pricing and execution of transactions.


  • Strategic & Operational

    • Monitor market developments and regulatory changes to form both client strategies and internal training content.
    • Work with our Corporate Treasury team and our Chatham representative to ensure all transactions are executed timely and comply with internal risk policies and regulatory standards.




To be successful in this position, we require the following:



  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in derivative sales, structuring, or trading within a banking environment.
  • Strong technical knowledge of derivative instruments and financial risk management.
  • Proven ability to communicate complex financial concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proficiency in Bloomberg, Excel, and financial modeling tools.


The following would be a plus:



  • Masters of Business Administration degree.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • Familiarity with corporate treasury functions and hedging strategies.
  • Understanding of accounting and regulatory framework.
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills.

Salary Range: $152,000-250,000
