DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will be responsible for regulating the operation of the plant to ensure that the facility maintains optimal heating and cooling conditions. You will supervise both semi-skilled and unskilled employees in the U.P.O.I. and U.P.H. categories, guiding them in making necessary adjustments and repairs to essential equipment such as boilers, chillers, pumps, valves, fittings, and other auxiliary systems. Your role will also involve a hands-on approach to the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment associated with the boiler, chiller, or HVAC systems. You will interpret data from gauges, charts, and computer programs to identify any required changes that will ensure the safe and efficient functioning of the heating and cooling systems during your assigned shifts.

Additionally, you will oversee and conduct testing of boiler water to ensure that chemical levels are appropriate, preventing potential damage to the boiler facility. When necessary, you will add chemicals in accordance with established guidelines and your prior training. You will also be responsible for testing closed-loop heating systems, chilled water systems, and cooling tower water systems to maintain proper chemical levels, again following pre-established protocols. Your duties will extend to supervising and participating in housekeeping tasks to ensure that a rigorous cleaning routine is upheld.

Furthermore, you will assist in managing a preventative maintenance program under the guidance of the Refrigeration Plant Supervisor, which includes directing lower-level employees in completing their tasks. The operation of the chiller plant and related equipment will be required on a 24/7 basis as needed, in alignment with scheduling demands. You will be expected to make recommendations for operational changes that enhance safety and efficiency within the utility plant. Lastly, you will engage in all required and recommended training opportunities to deepen your understanding of the trade, while also assisting the HVAC Supervisor, Technician, and Specialist to gain valuable knowledge and experience.
