Summary:

Under general supervision of the EOHS Manager, functions as first line manager responsible for directing nursing care/administrative activities for an employee patient population within the ambulatory setting for Morton Hospital (shared with Saint Anne's Hospital and Brown University Physicians Group Massachusetts). Performs duties to support program goals, standards, and targets.

Responsibilities:

Participates with EOHS Management in development of department policies and procedures related to provision of nursing care to ambulatory patients.


Provides direct clinical supervision to staff and students in his/her area of expertise and/or directs staff to qualified and competent individuals in other areas.

Assists in assessment of quality of care, documenting compliance to employee and occupational health care standards, recommend corrective action and monitors effectiveness of interventions. May assist staff in implementation of new concepts and technology within the area of responsibility


Participates in interviews, recommends selection, orients, and evaluates professional nurse staff and other patient care providers for designated ambulatory patient population.

Identifies training/development needs of staff to the manager to ensure continued development and maintenance of skills to meet nursing care standards.

May function in expanded management role in absence of the manager.

Regularly functions as professional nurse to provide direct patient care.

May participate in department-based research projects. Assists staff to implement approved research findings into practice.

Approves and/or makes recommendations regarding vacations and other scheduled time off requests per clinical manager direction.

Assists in coordinating the orientation of new staff members and evaluation of clinical competency.

Performs other duties as assigned.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

Graduation from approved school of nursing. A Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred. 

Must have current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Massachusetts.

Professional level of nursing knowledge and analytical ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care and to respond appropriately to patient's condition by assisting with emergency resuscitation measures as needed.

Visual and aural ability to monitor patient status.

Interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with patients.

Supervisory skills to effectively plan work, orient, direct and evaluate staff performing patient care activities.

Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout Brown University Health, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.

EXPERIENCE:
At least three years relevant experience, with demonstrated clinical and supervisory responsibilities.

Previous experience in Occupational Health, Ambulatory or Urgent Care is preferred.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Direct supervision of EOHS staff.
