Summary: Responsibilities: SCOPE OF PRACTICE
The PMH-NP is an independently licensed clinician whose practice can include the following:
* Assessment, diagnosis and treatment of individuals with acute and chronic psychiatric illnesses or emotional/behavior disturbances
* Clinical evaluation of patients in seclusion/restraints
* Psychopharmacologic management
* Individual, group and family therapy
* Crisis intervention and emergency evaluations
* Coordination and integration of multidisciplinary services for clients with complex psychiatric problems
* Provide comprehensive psychiatric -mental health education
* Support of individuals and their families around issues of developmental milestones, or life changes and/or catastrophic events
* Clinical supervision and consultation
* Promotion of wellness-oriented care with a focus on disease and disability prevention
* Advocacy for children with mental health issues and their families
* Initiation and participation in research studies
* Timely and accurate completion of all documents as per the policies and procedures of individual department in which he/she is employed. Other information: Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursingorlicensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing. BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
Must have current licensure to practice as an Advance Practice Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island.
Master of Science in Nursing with specialization in child and adolescent psychiatry from an accredited college or university. Current certification by ANCC as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse. Nurses whose position includes prescriptive authority, must have current Federal DEA# and fulfill all mandates per state law. In addition, must hold a current APRN CNS or PMH- and Controlled Substance registration in the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations.
Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
EXPERIENCE:
Three to five years' clinical experience in working with children and adolescents with mental health needs. If working in an ambulatory setting 1 year of prescribing psychiatric medications is preferred.
Experience in crisis intervention with patients with psychiatric-mental health issues.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Sits, stands and stands intermittently throughout the day. May move up to 35 pounds of weight.
INDEPENDENT ACTION:
Is an independently licensed practitioner working in collaboration with Brown University Health psychiatrists as approved by Medical staff.
Performs independently within department policies and practices. Refers specific complex problems to supervisor where clarification of departmental policies and procedures may be required.
