About this role

Position Summary

The Laron Machinist Lead is a working lead role responsible for setting up and operating a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments, while also guiding and supporting the shop team. This individual will ensure quality standards are met, mentor machinists, coordinate job priorities, and act as the key point of contact for production progress. This role combines hands-on machining expertise with leadership responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

Machining & Fabrication



  • Set up and operate machines (lathes, mills, grinders, shapers, etc.)
  • Fabricate, install, and maintain shop machinery and mechanical systems
  • Monitor feed and speed during machining to ensure efficiency and safety
  • Interpret blueprints and technical drawings to calculate precise dimensions and tolerances
  • Measure, examine, and test completed parts to ensure conformance using precision instruments (micrometers, calipers, gauges)


Leadership & Coordination



  • Prioritize daily workflow and assign tasks to machinists and helpers
  • Ensure team members follow safety, quality, and productivity standards
  • Act as a liaison between shop personnel and management to communicate job status, equipment issues, or process improvements
  • Assist with training new employees and cross-training team members
  • Provide guidance on proper machining techniques and troubleshooting practices


Maintenance & Support



  • Perform and document preventive and predictive maintenance on shop equipment
  • Troubleshoot and repair shop machinery as needed
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas
  • Write and revise Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as required
  • Lock out/tag out equipment according to safety protocols when not in use
