Min T/E Requirements |
- Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an ACOE-accredited institution.
- Licensure or eligibility for licensure as an optometric physician in North Carolina (licensure required upon hire).
- Minimum of five (5) years of clinical experience in medical optometry, with at least three (3) years in an academic clinic or health care administrative leadership role involving clinician and staff supervision.
- Demonstrated experience in clinical optometric program development, compliance, and quality improvement.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Knowledge of contemporary optometric education, healthcare regulation, and licensure processes.
- Commitment to excellence in patient care, clinical teaching, and service to underserved communities.

Primary Purpose of Organization Unit |
The School of Optometry provides doctoral level education and clinical training in preparation for licensure. At its full capacity, the School of Optometry will support a full-time faculty and staff of approximately 35 employees and a population of approximately 122 graduate students. The Doctor of Optometry program provides a comprehensive four-year curriculum in basic science, optometric science, clinical training, and provision of patient care in the third and fourth years of the program and will be accredited by the Accrediting Council on Optometric Education. The unit will also support a public eye care clinic. |
Primary Purpose of Position |
This position is responsible for comprehensive oversight of all clinical programs, clinical faculty, patient care systems, and partnerships within the College. The Assistant Dean ensures that clinical operations are aligned with the highest standards of educational quality, patient safety, regulatory compliance, and licensure readiness. Reporting directly to the Dean, this is a full-time, 12-month senior academic leadership role critical to the success of the College's mission in education, service, and community health. |
