What to Expect
The Semi Internal Packaging team is looking for a Technical Project Manager to lead key packaging initiatives supporting our manufacturing and material flow operations. This role focuses on internal packaging used within Tesla's factories to transport and store parts efficiently during the production process. You will partner closely with NPI (New Product Introduction), Packaging Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering (IE), Production Control (PC) and other cross-functional teams to ensure the readiness and scalability of packaging solutions for ongoing Semi programs. You will be responsible for driving the execution of packaging design validation, supplier readiness, line-side integration, and fleet management strategies. This position requires strong technical acumen, program management skills, and the ability to navigate ambiguity in a fast-paced, evolving environment. You will help build systems and processes to ensure on-time delivery of packaging that meets manufacturing, automation, ergonomic needs, and program readiness.
What You'll Do
- Manage Semi internal packaging programs from concept through SOP, including rack validation, FAT/SAT readiness, and fleet tracking. Support end-of-life (EOL) and fleet transition planning to enable maintenance strategy post-SOP
- Coordinate packaging design reviews and cross-functional alignment on specifications, timelines, and implementation
- Work with NPI, MFG, IE, PC, and PE teams to ensure packaging solutions meet automation, line-side delivery, and ergonomic requirements
- Track packaging milestones, escalate risks, and drive problem solving to maintain program schedules.Support cost estimation, budget approvals/leadership reviews, supplier onboarding, and design-for-packaging strategies
- Develop and maintain dashboards, trackers, and KPIs to monitor packaging readiness and supplier execution
- Establish and strengthen strategic partnerships with key stakeholder groups to support ongoing projects and future initiatives
- Identify process and system improvements to streamline packaging workflows and drive fleet standardization.Collaborate with software and data teams to enhance packaging tracking tools and integrate business logic into internal systems
What You'll Bring
- Master's Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
- 3-5+ years of experience in packaging engineering, supply chain operations, or manufacturing (automotive preferred)
- Proven ability to manage technical projects in a cross-functional setting with minimal oversight
- Strong organizational skills and ability to drive multiple workstreams concurrently.Strong communication skills and ability to influence without authority across diverse teams and levels
- Familiarity with packaging validation processes, automation interface requirements, and shop floor constraints
- Experience with data visualization, analysis, and program tracking (Tableau, SQL, Excel)
- Working knowledge of JIRA and Confluence; experience with custom tool development is a plus.Knowledge of Agile methodology and/or structured problem-solving frameworks (Lean, Six Sigma) is preferred
