The Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard seeks an individual to join the Metabolomics Platform. This is a rare opportunity to be a part of dynamic team consisting of experts in analytical biochemistry, computational biology, and clinical medicine. We are seeking a highly motivated team member who will carry out LC-MS-based metabolite profiling analyses toward completing research aims of the lab. We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated, and highly organized individual who can thrive in a fast-paced environment and can interact well with others as part of a team. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.


CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES
* Receives direction from the platform leader and other senior members of the group to address major research goals of the lab. Uses knowledge and technical expertise in sample preparation, separation and analysis by mass spectrometry to complete research projects that support the lab's projects.
* Receives biological samples from collaborators, organizes samples
* Responsible for precise preparation of samples from tissues and/or biofluids using a variety of sample preparation techniques (e.g. liquid-liquid extraction, SPE), May help to produce and isolate samples using cell culture techniques and subcellular fractionation methods.
* Carries out detailed LC-MS analyses of complex, biologically derived small molecule mixtures. Follows established protocols, is responsible review and integration of peak, and performs quality control. Tracks and compiles results.
* Operates and maintains one or more LC-MS system (orbitrap and triple quadrupole MS systems) for endogenous small molecule separation, identification and quantification.
* Orders chemical standards, creates stock solutions, and helps maintains inventory of standards.
* Helps ensure that laboratory tools and supplies, such as software, instrument spare parts, lab reagents, etc., are in place in accordance with project requirements.
* Attends weekly team meetings to present results, plan projects and experiments, and to ensure that projects support current team goals in a dynamic environment.
* Prepares detailed technical documents describing procedures and results.
* Other related tasks as required.

QUALIFICATIONS
* Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or similar and 3+ years of experience in a research laboratory.
* Experience using LC-MS for small molecule analysis, experience in MS-based metabolite profiling is desired.
* Must possess demonstrated ability and knowledge to design and conduct research independently.
* Experience using Microsoft Office required. Experience using mass spectrometry software and data analysis tools desired.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with all levels of staff and external contacts in a fast-paced environment required.

The expected base salary range for this position as listed above is based on a 40 hour per week schedule. Broad provides pay ranges representing its reasonable and good faith estimate of what the organization reasonably expects to pay for a position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will vary based on factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, education, qualifications, and other factors permissible by law.
