Your Opportunity

The Warehouse Specialist receives, stocks, and inventories products such as vaccines and supplies. This position maintains warehouse in a neat and orderly manner, receives product, packages & ships products UPS, builds pallets for startup orders and picks orders for staff as necessary by performing the following duties.

The Vet Lab Tech will prepare and produce vaccines and run quality control routines. Sample handling for all diagnostic testing. Mix medications as needed by production. Perform general housekeeping and stock inventory. Position will have the opportunity to move into performing diagnostic testing if desired and will be required to achieve high quality results. Environment is customer service oriented, fast paced, and requires a willingness to learn.

Core Responsibilities

• Receive all incoming freight and verify its integrity.

• Restock shelves from inbound freight.

• Monitor incoming supply app orders, use scan gun to pick the order, pull product for staff to pick up.

• Package and ship products via UPS.

• Restock small warehouse as needed.

• Ensure that all items requested have the correct item number, data entered and charged to the correct farm.

• Assist all staff with supply needs.

• Assist with Algona warehouse monthly cycle count.

• Handle subzero frozen vaccine and restocks freezers with incoming product.

• Handle ice packs and keeps freezers stocked full for UPS shipments.

• Mop biosecurity areas in main warehouse throughout the day as necessary.

• Monitor vaccines and supplies and let supervisor know if levels are low and need replenished.

• Box up expired meds and sharps in shed for monthly pickup.

• Prep cooler boxes for UPS shipping.

• Tear down cardboard for recycling, take out garbage and pallets for disposal.

• Adhere to all company policies and procedures.

• Conduct all transactions in a courteous professional manner.

• Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe warehouse environment.

• Cover for warehouse supervisor when in meetings, performing warehouse audits, traveling and on PTO.

• Responsible for following all environmental laws and procedures to which Smithfield Hog Production subscribes.

• Report all environmental issues immediately to their supervisor.

• Read and understand the company's emergency notification process and will be responsible for reviewing that policy at their worksite.

• Identify and prepare samples for internal and external diagnostic testing without supervision. Prepare laboratory/regulatory paperwork for testing.

• Vaccine production and quality control.

• May perform laboratory testing such as: SIV ELISA, PRRS ELISA, M. hyo ELISA, fecal floatation, TPC, Quality Control Testing, PCR testing for PRRS, TGE and other diseases.

• Work in fast paced environment with efficiency and accuracy, including computer-based data. Manage and prioritize daily schedule with minimal supervision.

• Maintain inventory and purchase supplies.

• Clean and sanitize laboratory containers and tools.

• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment including autoclaves, incubators, centrifuges, water bath, pumps, BIO-Tec reader, water distillation machine, automatic wall washer, thermal cycler, freezers and more.

• Good communication skills and customer service-oriented attitude.

• Administrative assistant position when needed.

• Operate UPS shipping system.

• Manage Biohazard handling and sample disposal.

• Perform tasks which may have objectionable odors.

• Perform procedures involving chemicals.

• Follow all IPS (safety), EMS, and laboratory policies.

• Follow IATA 1.5 diagnostic shipping regulations.

• Supports testing performed by Level 2 lab technicians.

• Work schedule may require flexibility including ability to work weekend days, holidays or evenings once candidate has demonstrated necessary technical ability.

• High School Diploma or GED, required.

• Must be able to lift >80 lbs.

• Must have a valid Driver License with sound Driving Record.

• Must have basic computer knowledge.

• Must have a basic concept and understanding of Microsoft Office Products (Word and Excel).

• Forklift and electric pallet jack usage.

• Lab Experience preferred

• Basic swine knowledge preferred

• Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.

• Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
