The Harley-Davidson Motor Company Product Development Center (PDC) located in Wauwatosa, WI is home to the mantra - You dream it. We build it. Join our team as a Motorcycle Development Excellence Manager - Hybrid.


Job Summary

The Manager, MD Excellence leads a team of Program Managers and Business Analysts driving engineering excellence across resource planning, process optimization, and tool enablement within the Engineering organization. This role partners closely with H-D Execution teams to enhance productivity and accelerate time-to-market.


With a deep understanding of the business and engineering's role in advancing corporate goals, both near- and long-term, the Manager develops and communicates a clear strategic vision for Motorcycle Development Excellence. They ensure successful implementation of initiatives aligned to that vision.


Key responsibilities include managing the engineering budget, overseeing resource planning to support all engineering programs, and collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders to align Lifecycle Planning (LCP) strategy and execution. Beyond LCP, the role also identifies future competency needs and leads efforts to close capability gaps across the organization.

WHAT You Do (key outcomes you're personally responsible for):

  • Leadership: Leadership of a team of Program Managers and Business Analysts including coaching, performance management and career development. Gain cross-functional alignment based on expert knowledge of New Product Development, H-D Tools and Processes and past lessons learned.


  • H-D Product Development Methodology: Owns Product Development Methodology and is responsible for envisioning, implementing, and executing methods inclusive of framework, process, and tools that are in line with strategic goals to reduce complexity, waste, and defects while increasing speed, agility, efficiency, and customer focus.


  • Motorcycle Development Metrics: Owns development of key product development metrics. Extract insights from trends and inform initiatives to drive engineering excellence.


  • Process Management: Lead implementation, adoption, training and continuous improvement of product development processes to enhance the broader organization's ability to launch products more effectively and efficiently. Processes can include but are not limited to:




    • Tool Management: Lead implementation, adoption, training and continuous improvement of product development tools to enhance the broader organization's ability to launch products more effectively and efficiently. Tools can include but are not limited to:








      • Power BI, Jira, PPM-MS Project
      • PAC Tools, Timesheet
      • LCP Planning Tool
      • Helix ALM, XFMEA, TIMS, eWO








    • Resource & Competency management:


      • Lead implementation, adoption, training and continuous improvement of resource management processes and tools to enable organization's ability to launch products more effectively and efficiently.
      • Creates and maintains Engineering Resource Planning supporting all Engineering goals (LCP, Innovation, Advanced development, engineering sustenance) and facilitate prioritization workshops to balance resources against workload.
      • Identify workforce competency gaps and develop strategy to address ESPs (including current ESP relationships like TCS and L&T)

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, or related technical field is required.

The pay range shown represents the national average pay range for this role. Your pay may be more or less than the stated range and is dependent on your geographic location and level of experience.
