Role: PM/BA/Compliance Analyst (financial risk stripes and regulatory reporting)

Duration: 3+ months

Work Location: Tempe, AZ or Chicago, IL

Work Model: onsite 3 days per week

Role Overview

  • The position is a hybrid PM/BA/Compliance Analyst role.
  • Partners very closely with the Product Owner.
  • Acts as a bridge between Product Owners and Engineering Teams.
  • Helps define roadmaps, structure timelines, and convert business requirements into functional specifications.
  • Will advise on project execution strategy (e.g., data vs. cloud migration, sequencing, risk vs. regression effort).
  • May represent the team in steer calls and sponsor meetings.


Core Responsibilities

  • Partner with Product Owner to:

    • Understand and translate business needs.
    • Identify project dependencies and risks.
    • Structure and prioritize workstreams.


  • Gather, analyze, and document:

    • Business and functional requirements.
    • Regulatory reporting needs.
    • System/process changes tied to compliance obligations.


  • Act as a liaison between business stakeholders and technical teams.
  • Write and interpret SQL queries to analyze data and support requirement validation.
  • Recommend data elements or transformations required for reports or system logic.
  • Provide advisory-level insight on how to structure compliant solutions.


Required Knowledge and Skills

  1. Understanding of Financial Risk Types (Credit, Market, Model Risk):

    • Broad exposure is more important than deep specialization.
    • High-level understanding is required; mid-level knowledge is ideal.
    • Deep Model Risk expertise not necessary - Product Owners/SMEs will support.


  2. Data Analysis and SQL:

    • Candidate should be able to write queries to support analysis.
    • Not expected to create complex stored procedures.
    • Should not be dependent on engineers for basic data pulls.


  3. Regulatory Reporting:

    • No single report focus due to nature of data modernization project.
    • Reports include: SECR, SCCL, SACCR, FRTB, etc.
    • Must understand how various reports relate to each other.


  4. BCBS239 Knowledge (Nice to Have):

    • Helpful for understanding governance and audit expectations.
    • Awareness is sufficient; full compliance not expected.


  5. Communication & Stakeholder Engagement:

    • Must navigate between business, IT, and senior sponsors.
    • Needs to proactively manage ambiguity and incomplete requirements.
    • Ability to facilitate structured decision-making when Product Owners or engineers lack clarity.




Nice to Have / Preferred Experience

  • Familiarity with data modernization or cloud/data platform migrations.
  • Exposure to handling regression analysis vs. risk trade-offs.
  • Experience with large banks or GSEPs (particularly for regulatory alignment context).
  • Prior participation in cross-functional or enterprise-scale transformation projects.
  • Experience advising on implementation best practices based on past compliance project work.


Tools & Technologies

  • SQL (must know enough to be self-sufficient with data pulls).
  • General familiarity with:

    • Legacy and modern data platforms.
    • Regulatory reporting systems.
    • Business and functional specification documentation tools.




Key Must-Haves (Top 3-5 Criteria)

  1. Strong understanding of business functions and compliance reporting.
  2. Ability to analyze data and write basic-to-intermediate SQL queries.
  3. Skill in translating business requirements into functional requirements.
  4. Strong stakeholder engagement skills; comfortable presenting and facilitating.
  5. Experience working across multiple financial risk types (credit, market).



Project Overview

- The project charter is to build out a new data platform to support Financial Risk and Regulatory operations in order to sunset legacy platforms. The project is staggered into multiple phases to migrate credit risk data, market risk data, risk models, and regulatory data to the strategic platform.

Contractor Role

- The role will perform in a functional analyst capacity to support the business requirement translation to functional requirements, data analysis of data model and technical data mapping.

Experience Level

The role requires senior experience as a functional analyst in the banking business domain with specific focus on Financial Risk and regulatory reporting.

Qualifications (must haves):

- 10+ years of functional and technical analysis experience.

- Experience with financial risk stripes (credit risk, market risk, model risk) and regulatory reporting (SCCL, RWA, FRTB).

- Experience with data platform such as Oracle, SQL Server, and Snowflake.

- experience in agile methodologies, writing user stories, and working with ADO for backlog management.

Nice to have:

- Experience with BCBS239 or RDARR requirements.

- FRM I, II certification or equivalent advanced studies.

Daily Tasks & Responsibilities:

- Work with product owners and business stakeholders to translate business requirements into functional requirements.

- Draft and refine user stories, acceptance criteria, and process flows in agile sprints.

- Perform data analysis and map data elements to the financial risk data model.
