THE POSITION

The Department of Conservation & Natural Resources is currently looking to hire a seasonal Park Maintenance Worker in Clinton County. This position involves performing semi-skilled maintenance and repair tasks across various trades, including building, mechanical, and electrical work. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the upkeep and functionality of facilities at several state parks, specifically Little Pine, Hyner Run, Hyner View, and Upper Pine Bottom. This role is essential for maintaining the parks' infrastructure, contributing to a safe and enjoyable environment for visitors, and supporting the overall mission of conservation and natural resource management in the region.


DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will be responsible for the thorough cleaning of all restroom facilities, adhering to a comprehensive 12-step cleaning protocol. Your primary duties will include the daily maintenance of restroom areas, cleaning rental cabins between guest stays, and ensuring the pool facility is well-kept. Additionally, you will manage the upkeep of park grounds through mowing and weed-eating, while also assisting with various maintenance tasks such as minor carpentry, painting, tree and branch cleanup, and litter removal as required. You will perform routine repair jobs under general supervision, as well as support a journeyman tradesman or maintenance supervisor with more complex maintenance tasks. Your role will also encompass preventative and operational maintenance of facilities, buildings, and equipment, which includes cleaning, basic repairs, and necessary adjustments. Routine building maintenance tasks will involve painting, re-shingling roofs, and repairing screens and windows, utilizing both hand and power tools. You will be tasked with replacing bulbs, shades, and switches, and assisting with electrical maintenance and repairs, as well as caring for electrical motors through oiling and adjustments. Furthermore, you will mix cement and plaster, assist in laying blocks and bricks, and perform minor plastering repairs. Your responsibilities will extend to supporting skilled tradesmen in grounds maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work, as well as painting and staining park buildings, structures, and signs. You will also conduct minor maintenance on park vehicles, including oil changes and fluid level checks, and perform general maintenance on water, sewage, and plumbing systems, addressing issues such as blocked drains and faucet repairs. Seasonal tasks will include snow removal from sidewalks and parking lots, grass cutting, and maintaining park trails. Proficiency in operating and maintaining hand and power tools is essential, as is the ability to use chainsaws for tree removal and cleanup following high water events. Lastly, you will be required to attend all necessary training sessions to ensure compliance and enhance your skills.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • This is a seasonal, full-time position with no healthcare benefits. There is not an option to buy into health care benefits. The season runs from approximately March 2025 until November 2025 at which time the employee will be placed on leave without pay. The employee will automatically be returned to employment approximately March 2026.
  • Shifts/days vary. This position will work 5 days/37.5 hours per week to include holidays and weekends.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience in laboring work including the use of tools and equipment used in maintenance or construction; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
