DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Fisheries Biologist, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with the Pennsylvania Game Commission to implement and update the State Wildlife Action Plan (SWAP). You will be working closely with the Natural Diversity Section Chief to prioritize SWAP implementation efforts and assisting with planning and identifying priorities. You will be responsible for implementing actions to proactively conserve Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) trust species and their habitats, with emphasis on Species of Greatest Conservation Need (SGCN). Work involves supporting the development of sustainable funding to support the PFBC's conservation mission and fulfilling the mandate of Congress and the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) for ongoing SWAP revision, performance reporting, and updating. Within this role, you will also be responsible for providing staff support for Bureau of Fisheries projects including project management, species surveys, permit review, and other related activities.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, upon successful completion of the probationary period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Bellefonte. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as a Fisheries Biologist 1, PFBC (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • One year of professional experience conducting fish studies, fish investigations, or fish research and a bachelor's degree in a biological science that includes or is supplemented by 12 college credits in fish biology, fisheries management, fish population dynamics, ichthyology, limnology, fish ecology, aquatic ecology, watershed ecology and management, wetland ecology and management, herpetology, freshwater entomology, fish culture, fish physiology, fish pathology, biometrics, or other courses closely related to fisheries science or aquatic ecology; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes 12 college credits in fish biology, fisheries management, fish population dynamics, ichthyology, limnology, fish ecology, aquatic ecology, watershed ecology and management, wetland ecology and management, herpetology, freshwater entomology, fish culture, fish physiology, fish pathology, biometrics, or other courses closely related to fisheries science or aquatic ecology.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of a valid driver's license.

Other Requirements:

  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
