DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of various watertube boilers, under both normal and emergency situations. Effectively utilizing both manual and automatic control systems, demonstrating proficiency in reading and interpreting visual and auditory gauges, meters, and sensors. Responsibilities include conducting routine and non-routine maintenance, performing operational assessments, and ensuring equipment cleanliness and minor repairs for optimal performance. Additionally, the role involves managing auxiliary equipment such as feedwater and condensate pumps, chemical feed pumps, and forced draft fans. You will also be tasked with testing boiler water chemistry, maintaining logs of these tests, and managing the inventory of water treatment chemicals. General housekeeping duties and daily inventory checks are required, along with supervising inmate workers, monitoring their movements, and ensuring a safe work environment. This includes conducting searches for contraband and maintaining accurate records of tools and hazardous materials in compliance with relevant regulations.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hour work week
  • Work hours are 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM, 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM, 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM, rotating shifts and off days.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $47,925 (before taxes). However, a higher salary may be established in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a steam or hot water generating plant, or a steam and electric generating plant; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
