THE POSITION

The Department of Health is looking for a highly motivated individual with an attention for detail. We have an opening for a Clerical Assistant 2 within the Bureau of Health Statistics and Registries, Division of Vital Records. If you have clerical experience, this may be the position for you.


DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Clerical Assistant 2, you will respond to telephone inquiries from the public, funeral directors, physicians, hospital records staff, coroners and other parties requesting information on accessing services related to issuance of vital records, certified copies, or vital event data.

You will provide information and referral for issues related to issuance of vital records certified copies or vital event data. A successful Clerical Assistant 2 will respond to inbound calls, triage calls, identify and define problems, find resolution alternatives, sufficient to meet caller needs effectively. The person in this position evaluates needs, determining the best methods to meet those needs, and advises and educates callers.

The Clerical Assistant 2 will provide accurate, comprehensive, and unbiased information; conducts follow-up on caller inquiries not immediately resolved; and assesses and meets the immediate, short-term need of callers who are experiencing a crisis.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Limited-term full-time wage position with benefits (Bronze Plan). Duration of employment is approximately six months with possible extension for an additional 6 months.
  • Work hours are 10:30 AM to 6:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position will have two to three week minimum of mandatory on-site training.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. The typical schedule for this position will include two onsite days per week. You may also be required to work onsite as dictated by operational and training needs. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in New Castle. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. This position will have two weeks minimum of mandatory on-site training.

  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $36,108 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Six months as a Clerical Assistant 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Graduation from high school; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
