  • Estimated annual base pay: $164,000 (minimum) - $205,000 (midpoint) - $246,000(maximum)

The Group Safety Management System (SMS) Manager reports directly to the Aerospace Vice President of Quality and is responsible for the strategic development, implementation, and oversight of the Safety Management System (SMS) across all aerospace manufacturing sites. This role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., FAA, EASA, OSHA), industry standards (e.g., AS9100, ISO 45001), and internal policies while fostering a strong safety culture. The SMS Manager will lead cross-functional teams to proactively identify risks, implement corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement in safety performance.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Lead the design, implementation, and governance of the enterprise-wide Safety Management System (SMS), aligned with aerospace industry standards and applicable regulations.
  • Serve as the Aerospace Group subject matter expert on SMS and safety risk management practices across all group sites.
  • Standardize SMS frameworks, processes, and tools to ensure consistency in hazard identification, risk assessment, incident investigation, and safety reporting.
  • Conduct periodic safety audits and assessments at manufacturing locations to verify compliance and effectiveness of safety systems.
  • Develop and track leading and lagging safety performance indicators, and deliver regular reports to executive leadership.
  • Facilitate training and coaching on SMS principles, safety awareness, and best practices for leadership and employees across all levels.
  • Collaborate with operations, engineering, quality, and EHS teams to integrate safety into operational processes and product lifecycle.
  • Manage safety investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective/preventive actions for significant incidents or trends.
  • Maintain knowledge of evolving aerospace safety regulations, standards, and best practices, and ensure timely updates to internal procedures.
  • Collaborate with functions inside and outside the organization.

What We Are Looking For

Education:

  • US - Master's degree in Arts/Sciences (MA/MS) preferred
  • US - Bachelor's Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS)

Experience:

  • Strong understanding of SMS frameworks (FAA, ICAO, EASA), aerospace quality standards (AS9100, AS13100).
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership presence and communication skills across all organizational levels.
  • Ability to travel 25-50% of the time depending on facility needs.
