This position will function and serve as shift manager for the following Memorial Union restaurants on the UW Madison campus: Strada, Daily Scoop, Terrace BBQ Stand and Lakeview Lounge. Job duties include: oversee quality food preparation, presentation, and customer service; guide and direct staff; oversee training and development of part-time staff.

Our organization, the Wisconsin Union, is the social heart of UW-Madison, providing events, facilities, and activities for students, staff, faculty, thousands of Wisconsin Union members, and visitors. The Union also provides hands-on leadership experiences for hundreds of UW-Madison students.

Schedule:

This position is scheduled to work a combination of days, nights and weekends, with 2 days off in a row. Operational and work schedules will be closely aligned with the services and customer needs of our units. As a result, work schedules will be adjusted during specific times of the year to meet demand. Summer is our busiest season.

Physical Demands:

Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds occasionally needed; Ability to work outside in inclement weather needed.

Certifications:

ServSafe Certification Required

Ability to produce or attain within 6 months of hire

Valid Bartender License Required

Ability to produce or attain within 6 months of hire

Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Develops and schedules logistics and menus for daily and catering operations
  • Other duties as described and assigned by supervisor
  • Leads and provides exceptional customer service, answers questions, and provides information regarding food preparation, catering, and associated activities
  • Performs routine and non-routine food preparation activities including cook to order and specialty foods
  • Enforcement of State and Local drinking laws and University policies and procedures.
  • Cleans, inspects, and maintains kitchen equipment and work areas
  • Adheres to federal, state, campus, and local food safety regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Assigns and coordinates the day-to-day activities of food service staff

Compensation:

The starting salary is $22/hour - but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Required Qualifications:
  • Previous restaurant experience required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous restaurant experience in supervisory or lead role

  • Basic knowledge of food preparation methods, techniques, and equipment


Education:

H.S. Diploma Preferred
