Job Description
OUR TEAM: We are a collaborative team of scientists advancing the frontiers of cell health and energy metabolism. Our strength lies in developing assays that capture the complexity of cellular function and transform it into actionable biological insight. By integrating multiparametric readouts with predictive modeling, we aim to uncover new dimensions of cellular biology that support discovery, diagnostics, and applied technologies. Our team thrives at the intersection of experimental biology and computation-working closely with experts in mass spectrometry, proteomics, transcriptomics, and structural modeling. We foster an environment where curiosity, rigor, and collaboration drive innovation, and where every scientist is empowered to contribute ideas that shape the future of Promega's multi-omics platforms.
YOUR ROLE: As a Senior Scientist, you will bridge experimental assay development with advanced computational approaches to create biologically meaningful and analytically robust solutions. You will design and validate cell health and energy metabolism assays, apply AI/ML-driven predictive modeling to extract insights, and integrate findings across multi-omics platforms. In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams-mass spectrometry experts, computational modelers, and assay developers-to ensure that our products reflect both biological depth and technological innovation. You will contribute to near-term assay development while building the foundation for transformative, systems-level capabilities that advance Promega's long-term strategic vision. Beyond project execution, you will have the opportunity to lead initiatives, mentor colleagues, and champion novel ideas that position predictive modeling as a core driver of product innovation.
YOUR EXPERIENCE: You are a scientist with advanced training (Ph.D. or M.S. with significant experience) in biochemistry, molecular biology, computational biology, or a related field, with demonstrated expertise at the interface of biology and computation. You have hands-on experience in assay design, protein or cell-based systems, and a strong background in predictive modeling, AI/ML applications, or systems-level biology. Familiarity with metabolomics, proteomics, or multi-omics integration is strongly valued. You are driven by the challenge of making complex data biologically meaningful and have a track record of collaborative, cross-disciplinary work. Whether you come from an academic or industry background, you bring intellectual curiosity, technical rigor, and a deep respect for both experimental and computational sciences. Above all, you are a continual learner, an analytical thinker, and a generous collaborator-excited to define how predictive modeling and advanced assay design shape Promega's future.
CORE DUTIES:
1. Design, develop, and validate cell-based functional assays for applications in viability, energy metabolism and other multiparametric readouts.
2. Generate, integrate, and interpret multi-omics datasets (proteomics, metabolomics, transcriptomics, secretome) to uncover biological insights.
3. Apply computational methods, including predictive modeling and machine learning, to complement experimental design and enhance assay performance.
4. Translate biological and computational findings into assay concepts that align with customer needs and Promega's strategic priorities.
5. Collaborate across interdisciplinary teams - including experimental biologists, computational scientists, and commercial groups - to accelerate assay innovation.
6. Communicate findings effectively through reports, presentations, and cross-functional discussions.
7. Demonstrates inclusion through their own words and actions and is accountable for a safe workspace. Acts with kindness, curiosity and respect for others.
8. Embracing and being open to incorporating Promega's 6 Emotional & Social Intelligence (ESI) core principles in daily work.
9. Understands and complies with ethical, legal and regulatory requirements applicable to our business.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS:
1. PhD (or equivalent) in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Metabolism, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Systems Biology, Biostatistics, or related quantitative sciences, with demonstrated ability to bridge experimental and computational domains.
2. 3-7+ years of postdoctoral or industry experience applying experimental and/or computational approaches to address questions in cell biology, assay development, metabolism, or multi-omics research.
3. Hands-on expertise designing and running functional assays with multiparametric readouts.
4. Demonstrated ability to apply computational approaches (e.g., machine learning, statistical modeling, or predictive simulations) to biological datasets.
5. Strong quantitative and problem-solving skills, with ability to bridge computational and biological domains.
6. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with ability to collaborate across scientific and commercial teams.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Additional training or experience in computational biology, bioinformatics, or quantitative sciences.
2. Experience with simulation approaches and predictive cell-based models.
3. Expertise in metabolomics, metabolic pathway analysis, or single-cell analysis.
4. Strong math/computational background as a complement to deep biological expertise.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
1. Ability to remain stationary at a laboratory bench or computer for extended periods.
2. Ability to operate and use laboratory equipment, prepare reagents, and assemble experimental systems.
3. Ability to position oneself in low positions (e.g., accessing freezers or lab equipment).
4. Ability to move objects up to 20 pounds.
5. Ability to transport materials between laboratories and buildings. At Promega, we are committed to building a diverse workforce that reflects the communities we serve and creating a culture where everyone belongs. As an Equal Opportunity Employer, we welcome and encourage applications from all backgrounds, ensuring that employment decisions are made fairly and equitably.
