Duke University is seeking aProgram Director, Special Eventsto join the Offices of the President and Secretary. In this highly visible role, you'll plan, coordinate, and manage university ceremonies, celebrations, and special recognition programs hosted by senior leadership. You'll represent Duke to a wide range of constituents, including trustees, senior leaders, distinguished guests, and alumni.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 4+ years of experience planning and administering programs and events
  • Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience coordinating high-profile special events
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with discretion and professionalism
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Qualtrics, Adobe Acrobat

As Program Director, you will:



  • Manage logistics for Board of Trustees meetings and university ceremonies (e.g., Commencement, Convocation)
  • Develop event briefings, invitations, and promotional materials
  • Coordinate volunteers, marshals, and training sessions
  • Oversee operations of the President's Suite for home football games
  • Support daily office operations and serve as liaison for special guests
  • Negotiate contracts and coordinate vendor payments
  • Work occasional evenings and weekends; must be able to lift up to 40 lbs

Anticipated Pay Range:

Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $59,829.00 to USD $86,700.00. Duke University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills; internal peer equity; as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.

Education

Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.



Experience

Work requires three years experience in alumni affairs, public relations, fundraising, sales and promotions, marketing, student activities or a related field. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
