Join our Macquarie Commodities Trading division, reporting to our Global Head of Crude Oil Trading, as an experienced senior crude analyst to lead coverage of the Americas crude oil markets. Based in Houston, your role will provide fundamental market analysis to support the Americas crude oil trading desk while collaborating closely with the broader global team of crude traders and analysts.

What role will you play?

In this role, you will be developing and maintaining detailed crude oil supply and demand models, tracking global crude oil flows, leveraging the data and technical tools at Macquarie to improve our research in commodity market fundamentals and identify possible trading opportunities, following key oil market geopolitical and economic developments, and data-mining energy statistics from government and industry sources. You should be able to adjust your analysis to keep pace with the rapidly changing market conditions as well as maintain, update, and improve trading and analysis tools, perform ad hoc analysis/research for all the traders on the desk and able to discuss potential changes in the market and the impacts this will have on supply and demand models and engage in proactive discussions on potential trading opportunities with the trading team.



What you offer

  • 5+ years relevant commodities analytics experience in a trading or market research role
  • Degree in finance, economics, math, engineering, or sciences
  • Deep understanding of refining processes
  • Possess excellent analytical, numerical reasoning, written and verbal communication skills in tandem with being proactive, entrepreneurial, and creative in your approach to problem solving
  • Experience working with large quantities of data both in Excel as well as familiarity with database systems such as SQL
  • Highly driven, self-starter with a demonstrated consistent success in working closely within a team environment while handling high pressure situations
