We are seeking an experienced Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO) to oversee all project safety efforts at Shaw AFB, South Carolina. This role is responsible for implementing and enforcing the project Accident Prevention Plan (APP) and Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), ensuring compliance with NAVFAC, OSHA, and EM 385-1-1 requirements. The SSHO will serve as the government's primary point of contact for all site safety matters, championing a proactive culture of hazard awareness and accident prevention.

Location: Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:




  • Serve as the on-site safety authority for all construction activities in accordance with NAVFAC SE and EM 385-1-1 requirements.



  • Develop, implement, and maintain the Accident Prevention Plan (APP) and site-specific safety plans.



  • Conduct daily safety inspections and enforce corrective actions for unsafe conditions or non-compliance.



  • Lead safety meetings, toolbox talks, and site orientations to reinforce safety culture and expectations.



  • Review subcontractor safety plans and ensure alignment with contract requirements.



  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.



  • Maintain accurate safety records, reports, and documentation for submission to NAVFAC representatives.



  • Support project management in achieving high CPARS safety ratings by maintaining a zero-incident environment.




QUALIFICATIONS:




  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or Construction Management preferred (equivalent experience considered).



  • 5+ years of construction safety experience on federal or military projects.



  • Completion of the OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety course (required).



  • Completion of the NAVFAC/USACE EM 385-1-1 40-hour training (required).



  • CPR/First Aid certification (must be current).



  • CSP, CHST, or other professional safety credential preferred.



  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA, EM 385-1-1, and NAVFAC safety requirements.



  • Proven leadership and communication skills with the ability to influence subcontractors and field teams.
