The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Division of Rheumatology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center is seeking a highly motivated and patient-centered Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our dynamic clinical team. The NP will play an integral role in providing direct patient care and care coordination in collaboration with faculty physicians. This position is central to enhancing patient access, optimizing chronic disease management, and contributing to multidisciplinary care within an academic medical center.

The NP will support a variety of rheumatologic subspecialties, including systemic lupus erythematosus, vasculitis, inflammatory arthritis, and connective tissue diseases.

Responsibilities



  • Obtain patient histories, perform comprehensive and targeted physical exams, and order and evaluate diagnostic tests.
  • Manage chronic and acute patient problems, including triaging clinical questions and concerns.
  • Counsel and educate patients and caregivers on disease processes and care management.
  • Support patient access by managing follow-up and urgent visits.
  • Facilitate and deliver care both collaboratively and autonomously.
  • Review outside medical records, collaborating with physicians to adjust treatment plans as needed.
  • Order, supervise, and administer infusions and provide clinical support for patients receiving IV medications.
  • Order medications and ensure timely and accurate documentation in the electronic health record (Epic).
  • Screen and enroll patients in clinical trials according to research protocols.
  • Perform study-related procedures without direct supervision from the Principal Investigator (PI).
  • Coordinate and implement clinical trials and protocols involving human subjects.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate research data associates and student volunteers.
  • Maintain accurate case report forms.
  • Participate in divisional initiatives related to patient education, quality improvement, and care standardization.
  • Perform additional related duties as needed


Minimum Qualifications



  • Master's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience, with one to two years of experience.
  • Current New York State Nurse Practitioner (NP) (or proof of application) and Registered Nurse (RN) licenses.
  • NP board certification.
  • BCLS and ACLS certifications.
  • Proficiency with computer-based programs, including EMR systems (such as Epic), MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Excel.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Successful completion of applicable compliance and systems training requirements
  • Experience working with patients who have autoimmune or chronic inflammatory conditions.
  • Familiarity with the Epic electronic medical record system.
  • An interest in academic medicine, with a desire to engage in research, teaching, or quality improvement projects.


Other Requirements



  • Medical clearance and participation in the medical surveillance program.
  • Successful completion of applicable compliance and systems training requirements.
