Job Description

Originate first mortgage loans, promote the Bank's and its lending services to the real estate community and help to identify and serve the community's financial needs through home loan counseling, real estate seminars and by participating in and promoting the Bank's community activities. Responsible for administering the Loan function in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Bank. Responsible for attracting and gaining new loan prospects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Serves diverse communities with a particular focus on meeting the lending and deposit needs of the Latino communities. Utilizes Spanish language skills and develops relationships with Spanish speaking clients and applicants. Participates in Spanish American community activities; develops referral network; builds relationships with centers of influence and business partners.
  • Solicit first mortgage loans; personally interview all loan applicants; inform prospective loan clients of the Bank's underwriting guidelines and applicable government regulations
  • Originate individual loans pursuant to the Bank's loan policies and procedures
  • Remain current with new legislation and regulations that may affect the Bank's residential lending policies
  • Establish, maintain and expand a loan sourcing network for generating future business
  • Personally respond to phone inquiries concerning loan products, and services
  • Communicate with attorneys, appraisers and other vendors to ensure a timely and efficient process and customer satisfaction
  • Conduct mortgage seminars and First-Time buyer workshops in Spanish and English -providing additional exposure for the Bank
  • Collaborate with management to develop and maintain strong mutually beneficial business relationships
  • Actively participate and provide input into overall Bank management through committee assignments and other tasks
  • Provide training for loan personnel as directed by management to better penetrate the community
  • Provide management with pipeline reports and loan status information as required
  • Prepare, monitor and maintain loan files for assigned borrowers
  • Actively participates in local business and community activities and maintains close contact with local builders, real estate brokers and agents, customers and prospects
  • Perform additional duties as requested, needed or assigned

Experience and Skills

JOB REQUIREMENTS



  • Fluent in both English and Spanish with strong verbal and written communication skills in both
  • Ability to build strong relationships and alliances especially with the Spanish speaking community
  • Superior customer service skills with a desire to exceed customers' expectations
  • Thorough understanding of State, local and the Bank's community-based programs designed to increase homeownership such as... First-Time Homebuyer programs, MassHousing, MHP and other market specific programs
  • Established contacts in community for loan referral sources
  • Extensive knowledge of financial institution policies, procedures, strong knowledge of real estate lending practices and related areas Knowledge of department support structures, resources and personnel
  • Personal traits should include... being highly self-motivated; willing to adapt to change; having an attention to detail, an ability to multi-task; and being reliable
  • Strong analytical skills and decision-making ability
  • Strong sales, managerial and interpersonal skills; values diversity and is sensitive to cultural norms.
  • Knowledge of secondary market practices, underwriting guidelines, lending laws and procedures for real estate lending
  • Strong organizational, communication and public relations skills particularly in working with documentation that requires special handling

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE



  • Bachelor Degree in business or finance and 3 or more years' experience in mortgage origination and secondary market underwriting guidelines
  • Experience originating/processing applications using ICE/Encompass POS/LOS or similar origination system
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite; MS Excel, MS Word and Outlook


WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS



  • Normal business office environment
  • Working in a hybrid work environment with three days in office and two days remote
