Summary Description

This is a leadership position responsible for the quality, safety, and training processes at a facility/location. This position has the primary responsibility for managing AITX's quality system and EH&S policy. Additionally, to manage quality and EH&S components of processes, equipment and personnel to promote a safe workplace and the protection of the environment to maintain a healthy, safe working environment for the employees and the community.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee quality processes to assure compliance with AITX Quality Assurance Manual and AAR M-1003 standards. The focus will be to manage the quality system and its components to ensure the quality of the railcars and satisfy all customer, regulatory, and AITX requirements.
  • Oversee and ensure safety procedures and policies are in compliance with OSHA and AITX standards, including maintaining related tracking logs.
  • Ensure quality and safety training meets AITX and regulatory standards, while ensuring employees are trained and testing is documented.
  • Oversee site environmental compliance.
  • Ensure site compliance to AITX's welding policy.
  • Act as a technical resource for investigating and resolving policy non-conformance, such as, but not limited to, incident reporting, customer discrepancies, and audit exceptions.
  • Conduct and /or oversee the audit process, this can include Customer, AAR, & FRA audits, internal audits, process and peer assessment audits, in order to continuously improve all aspects of safety and quality.
  • Control and communicate documents pertinent to the quality and safety policy, to all affected personnel.
  • Work closely with management and other AITX locations to introduce new procedures or equipment into production.
  • Coordinates and is responsible for site Safety Committee initiatives.
  • This position will interact with senior executives, functional leaders, site managers / leaders and operations staff throughout the organization. Key functional groups and customers for this position are QSTs, Operations, Inspections, Materials (warehouse), and external regulatory agencies.

Qualifications

  • M-1003 Basic Auditor Training Class through AAR
  • M-1003 Lead Auditor Training Class through AAR
  • AAR Interchanges Rules through Railway Education Bureau
  • 30 hour OSHA training course
  • 24 hour HAZMAT training course
  • First Aid CPR training
  • Environmental regulatory training

Physical Demands & Work Environment

With the exception of clerical, administrative, and some management positions, which require indoor work, the physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, dry/arid and dusty conditions. The environment requires working in close proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, in high and low precarious places, as well as in confined spaces.

The work type is best described as heavy, hands-on mechanical work. Work is very physical, and without proper work planning can result in out of position pushing, pulling and lifting. Proper body mechanics, positioning and lifting techniques can be very important. Employees are urged to seek help when needed with heavier tasks, and to use lifting equipment when and where necessary. The positioning of the work being performed can change very frequently.

Various heavier air and electric powered tools such as car jacks, impact wrenches, and grinders are used daily. Work also requires frequent use of hand wrenches, hammers, chisels, socket wrenches, and ladders. Cutting torches are also used, with welding equipment used upon qualification of employee.
