Focus: The Global Reliability Instrumentation SME is responsible for overseeing and enhancing the reliability of plant operations through institutionalizing key reliability fundamentals across the enterprise. This role provides instrumentation technology consultation, expertise, training, and leadership ensuring the safety, efficiency, and longevity of our assets while driving continuous improvement initiatives.
Global Reliability Instrumentation SME Essential Responsibilities:
- Lead standardization efforts for instrument discipline related practices, most effective technology, and engineering tools.
- Identify value creating opportunities in instrument reliability and design. Lead the development and implementation of innovative solutions.
- Train and develop Engineers and Instrumentation Technicians in the theory, selection, and application of process instrumentation. Additionally, train and mentor these individuals in various reliability fundamentals that provide positive impact to the life cycle cost of instrumentation assets.
- Participate in capital and expense project design reviews and provide technical guidance on the selection of appropriate instrument technologies, installation methods, and detailed specifications, materials of construction.
- Partner with Corporate Procurement to optimize costs and ensure targeted instrumentation suppliers meet technical specifications and provide continued support to address quality and reliability issues.
- Provide technical troubleshooting support for complex or difficult instrumentation-related plant issues and at times participate in RCI's (Root Cause Investigations), plant technical reviews, and audits.
Global Reliability Instrumentation SME Minimum Requirements:
- Must meet one of the following education and experience requirements:
- Bachelor's degree* in electrical, mechanical or related engineering discipline with a minimum of 12 years of production plant level instrumentation experience.
- High School Diploma and 20 years of progressive experience and demonstrated technical expertise in the application of process instrumentation.
- Instrumentation design or manufacturing representative experience on both large and small capital projects.
- Sound technical knowledge on a broad range of instrument technologies and their application (e.g. pressure, level, temperature, flow, and valves) required. Knowledge of process analyzer technologies is preferred.
- Knowledge of Safety Instrumented System (SIS) requirements.
- Proficiency in reliability fundamentals such as PM/PdM, RCA, FMEA, SIC, Maintenance Work Process, and effective mechanical integrity systems that support asset life cycle management.
- Familiarity with owner and industry standards and practices related to materials of construction (e.g., NACE, API, ASME), with active engagement in professional technical organizations such as ASME, API, and PIP.
- Ability to work independently on complex projects. Manages conflicts and provides resolution using a combination of technical skills, leadership, teamwork, and development of interpersonal relationships.
- Experience with Aspen Tech IP21 plant data tools, Smart Plant Instrument database, and proficiency with CONVAL valve selection software or equivalent required. Familiarity with Dow GPI process data applications preferred.
- Proficiency with SAP and Microsoft Office software required.
