Job Summary

Milwaukee Public Schools is actively recruiting candidates for a Systems Administrator position.

A Systems Administrator is responsible for the effective provisioning, configuration, operation and maintenance of systems hardware, software and related infrastructure, including, but not exclusive to the following systems: Windows Servers both physical and VMware virtual machines, Linux based servers both physical and virtual, Active Directory including group policy, ChromeOS and Chromebooks. Ensures system hardware, operating systems, software systems and related procedures adhere to District standards.

The salary range is $77,803 - $112,061 (12 months/260 days)

This position may allow for a hybrid remote work schedule (work from home for a portion of the workweek) within the state of Wisconsin.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in computer science, software engineering, information systems, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Three years of experience in system administration, network administration and enterprise security management performing duties related to this position.
  • Microsoft Certified Professional and/or Google Suite certification desired.
  • A combination of education and experience will be considered.
Responsibilities

  • Configures server hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with district standards and project operational requirements.
  • Support the District's Active Directory including group policy and user management.
  • Work as part of a team of system administrators who each have different focuses and responsibilities but can backup and cover each other's areas.
  • Assists internal and external customers to provide implementation, configuration, troubleshooting, and ongoing support for both new and existing systems and software applications.
  • Implements security measures for access to District processing systems, including network, firewall, Active Directory servers and Windows and LINUX Operating Systems.
  • Provide second tier support for District account creation and modifications including troubleshooting of directory services, batch processing of user accounts and importing account information from source systems.
  • Assists with implementation of vendor-issued security software updates for network, server and software applications.
  • Upgrades administrative tools and utilities. Configures and/or adds new services as necessary.
  • Performs daily system monitoring, verifies the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviews system and application logs, and verifies completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
  • Participates in product research and development of emerging technologies that may be used to enhance or replace existing systems.
  • Performs regular file archival and purges as necessary.
  • Performs regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
  • Repairs and recovers from hardware or software failures.
  • Creates, verifies, and/or maintains documentation of assigned information systems including installation and configuration procedures.
  • Performs ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Performs periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
  • Participation in systems on-call rotation
  • Actively supports the MPS Strategic Plan.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
