Purpose and Principle Responsibilities

The engineering intern primarily performs product testing, but also performs research and supports the engineering department in other administrative and project activities.

Essential Duties - other duties may be assigned

  1. Perform all tasks in a safe manner; considering personnel, test equipment, and test articles.
  2. Perform testing as directed; with clearly and concisely annotating testing activities performed, and properly maintaining test logs, reading record gauges, and photographing tests/ set ups.
  3. Perform testing adhering to test procedures without any improvisation or deviations.
  4. Perform testing using calibrated equipment.
  5. Perform all assigned/ directed tasks in accordance with established company ISO 9001/ AS 9100 (QMS) procedures and work instructions.
  6. Provide technical and administrative support to the engineering department as requested.
  7. Assemble test fixtures and test set ups using basic assembly hand tools.


Complete other duties as directed by engineering department personnel.

Education and/or Experience Required

Must be actively working towards a BS in Mechanical Engineering degree from an ABET accredited institution. Students in their mid-sophomore and junior year preferred. Alternate degrees and experience will be considered.

  1. Must have the ability to follow instructions.
  2. Must have demonstrated knowledge of engineering principles.
  3. Must have problem solving, critical thinking, and creativity skills.
  4. Must be punctual, self-motivated, results-oriented, possess the ability to work with limited supervision, and be a team player.
  5. Must have good comprehension and numerical intelligence (analytical), and a demonstrated ability to communicate both verbally and with the written form.
  6. Must be detail-oriented with good organizational skills. For example, adhere to test procedures without improvisation or deviations, and properly maintain test logs, read record gauges, and photograph tests/ set ups.
  7. Must have competent computer skills, including experience with MS Office products.
  8. Knowledge of SolidWorks 3D CAD and PDM is preferred.


Must have the ability to produce consistent, accurate, and timely work. For example, clearly and concisely annotate testing activities performed.

  1. While performing duties of this position; the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  2. The employee frequently is required to walk, bend, stoop, kneel, or crouch, reach with hands and arms, and climb or balance.

  • This position may alternate between a sedentary as well as mobile role at times.
  • Intermittent travel may be required by road.
  • Occasionally may include heavy lifting and moving of equipment 30+ pounds: overhead lifting, bending, prolong standing, twisting.
