Job Purpose

The Manager of Construction Planning and Work Support leads the planning and execution of all scheduling functions associated with the distribution portfolio within the Transmission & Distribution Electric Operations organization. This position ensures the safe, efficient, and cost-effective delivery of both capital and operational work in accordance with regulatory requirements, customer expectations, and internal performance targets. The manager oversees a team of construction planners and work support staff, fostering continuous improvement, resource optimization, and effective stakeholder collaboration.

Key Accountabilities

* Lead the scheduling related functions and construction planning activities for short- and long-term Opex and Capex construction projects, including customer work, to the appropriate internal and external Distribution Line and Substation work functions in accordance with the annual work plans.

* Provide leadership and direction to the team of Construction Planners, overseeing their operational workload and ensuring the effective management and implementation of weekly work schedules. Ensure that resources are optimally allocated and utilized to achieve the agreed program of work, while maximizing efficiency and productivity.

* Lead teams that perform clerical tasks to support field employees and supervisors.

* Oversee all projects and programs to ensure their proper assessment, planning, resourcing, and scheduling, delivering optimal value for National Grid customers.

* Oversee the planning and implementation of construction-ready capital projects to maintain a levelized capital work plan throughout the fiscal year, identifying priorities, bundling opportunities, and risks to support an efficient allocation between capital and O&M activities.

* Exhibit strong leadership capabilities with a demonstrated track record of directing, supervising, motivating, and training teams of technical and support personnel.

* Collaborate with stakeholders within the Transmission & Distribution Electric Operations area and across the business, to translate business objectives into well-defined requirements.

* Ensure policies, procedures, and expectations for employee conduct are followed.

* Provide coaching, development, and performance management for direct reports.

* Apply continuous improvement principles to evaluate and refine current policies and processes, ensuring they are effective, efficient, and deliver optimal value for the business by identifying pain points, driving best practices, and implementing innovative solutions.

* Leverage performance metrics to facilitate comprehensive analysis of productivity trends, operational efficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.

* Oversee employee performance, conduct, and attendance, as well as coordinate training initiatives and manage administrative responsibilities.

* Promote a high-performing safety culture by demonstrating exemplary personal conduct, providing effective leadership, and consistently applying human performance principles.

* Prepare all direct employees to support storm restoration activities emergencies; proactively develop and maintain readiness plans (e.g., Division Storm, Business Continuity, etc.)

* Other special projects, assignments, and project management support as required by the Director of Construction Planning and Work Support to meet the needs of National Grid Transmission & Distribution Electric Operations.

Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required
  • Previous supervisory experience in operational field activity is preferred.
Qualifications

* Bachelor's or master's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a Business related field with 7 years of relevant experience. In lieu of bachelor's degree, candidates with 10 years of relevant experience will be considered.

* Previous supervisory experience in operational field activity preferred.

* Comprehensive understanding of distribution overhead line, underground, protection & telecom, and substations work.

* Advanced knowledge of the various stages within the job life cycle from customer initiation through to project completion.

* Proficiency in Power BI, SharePoint, STORMS, SAP, Microsoft Office Suite, ARM, and P6 Team Member.

* In-depth knowledge of National Grid's business operations, company policies, and practices and how to apply them effectively.

* Valid driver's license and a safe driving history that meets National Grid's Safe Driver policy is required; ability to travel to divisional offices and other locations as needed.

* Availability to support storm/emergency response activities as required

More Information

Salary: $120,000 - $141,000

This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills. Internal candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.
