Description
As a Surgery Scheduler, you will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of care for your assigned surgery service line. This includes scheduling patient appointments, encounters, therapeutic and ancillary testing, and procedures as needed. You will also schedule surgeries in the main OR and/or Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs). Key Responsibilities:
Schedule patient appointments, surgeries, x-rays, and required tests. Obtain insurance authorizations and prepare all necessary documentation, charts, and clinic information for physicians. Answer, screen, and respond to incoming calls. Prepare and forward required documents to appropriate departments, including: Insurance authorization, Charge documents and reconciliations, Disability and workers' compensation forms Explain charges to patients, assist with billing questions, and coordinate directly with Department Billing and Physician Support Services. Serve as a liaison between patients, physicians, nursing units, and other UCLA departments. Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports, as needed. Provide support in related areas such as appointment scheduling, pre-registration, patient reception, and cash collection. Perform other duties and tasks, as assigned.
Salary Range: $30.36-$43.49
Qualifications
Required
- Demonstrated basic knowledge of third-party insurances, government programs and other insurance agencies for purposes of assigning financial class codes and obtaining any necessary authorizations.
- Ability to research medical diagnosis and procedure codes in CPT Code book and ICD-9_CM code book.
- Demonstrated computer skills including word-processing, use of spreadsheets and data entry.
- Ability to understand and correctly use technical terminology, correctly identify, and extract data from hospital records, enter data on flow sheets or in computer and maintain study records.
- Ability to communicate effectively with medical, nursing, and administrative personnel, both verbally and via written reports and memos.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Skill and experience in composing clear and understandable written memos and reports using correct grammar.
- Skill in prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely and accurate manner.
- Superior typing skills to prepare correspondence, reports and other written materials with speed and accuracy.
- Skill in prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely manner when there are changes in workload and assignments, pressures of deadlines, and/or a heavy workload.
- Ability to work flexible hours and travel to department clinics, as assigned.
