Summary: The Certified Technician provides support to the pharmacist by reviewing, compounding and dispensing medications. All work is carried out under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist. Job functions are directly related to clinical trial medications. The technician is someone who is focused on patient safety, performs well in a busy environment, and has exceptional attention to detail. This position qualifies for our Pharmacy Technician Incentive Program, which includes $5000 in commitment incentives spread over a two-year period. Payment is made after six months, one year, and two years of employment. - Performs job functions at two physical locations, rotating as needed:
- UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill, NC
- UNC Central Investigational Drug Services in Morrisville, NC
- Contributes to operational needs by rotating through numerous technician roles.
- Responds to and triages time-sensitive email communications from research teams in relation to dispensation of investigational drugs.
- Files and organizes clinical trial documents in a regulatory-compliant manner.
- Compounds and/or prepares medications (sterile products, oral, topical, controlled substances, etc.) including high-risk medication processes under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist
- Packages and ships medications to satellite pharmacies under strict temperature monitoring standards.
- Orders, receives, restocks, and rotates inventory, and completes expiration date management.
- Communicates with clinical research sponsors regarding questions about investigational drug inventory. Schedules and assists with audit visits, and responds to follow-up inquiries after audit visits.
- Contributes to operational process improvement projects.
- Displays professionalism and teamwork in all interactions both internal and external to the department.
- Assists with training of new employees, educating them in job-specific functions.
- Completes regulatory compliance inspection of medication storage areas, including inspections and/or controlled substance inventories, USP797 and other regulatory documentation as required.
- Contributes to completion of operations workload each day.

Other information: Education Requirements: * None required as long as other position qualifications are met. Completion of an academic pharmacy technician training program preferred. Licensure/Certification Requirements: * Registration with the NC Board of Pharmacy unless enrolled in a PharmD program. *CPhT from PTCB or ExCPT from NHA unless enrolled in a PharmD program. Professional Experience Requirements: * Prior pharmacy technician experience is preferred. Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:
- Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Experience using Epic is a plus.
