Position Summary
Position Summary: Goal of the Position: The goal of a Peer Mentor is to provide students with guidance, support, and feedback to accelerate the student's academic and professional growth. Worksite: Pasos Resource Center (PRC), located in the Learning Resource Center (LRC) building Benefits of the position: *Make a difference in a student's academic journey *Personal and professional growth *Contribute to the community *Flexible schedule *Onsite training Peer Mentor Role: The mentor's role is to support students by: *Aiding in the planning and implementation of social & cultural campus or community activities/events *Being an active and reflective listener and offering support and encouragement *Sharing ideas to resolve academic barriers to success *Building rapport with all students in the Pasos Resource Center *Working closely with college navigation and technology; referring students to on-campus resources and advocacy *Encouraging critical thinking, problem-solving, analysis, organization, academic, and personal growth *Supporting students in discovering various types of study and note-taking skills that work best for them *Exploring students' strengths, talents and gifts, and encouraging them to find ways to use them *Exposing students to new opportunities and experiences in reaching their academic goals *Assisting and supporting the Front Desk, including but not limited to cordially greeting visitors, answering phone calls, following visitor check-in protocols, scheduling advisement and tutoring appointments, assisting with frequently asked questions, offering warm referrals Time Commitment: *Up to 28 hours weekly (Monday through Friday) between 8am and 5pm with Late Night options up to 7pm. Availability dependent on the business need. *Supervision/Training: oIndividual meetings with supervisor/team oAttendance and participation in Peer Mentor training as outlined by the College of Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) curriculum Center Responsibilities: *Greet all students residing in the Pasos Resource Center *Make students aware you are available if they need assistance *Seek out opportunities to meet and mentor students one-on-one *Support data collection and entry for the Pasos Resource Center *Assist in updating resource information boards and knowledge of UNM Semester Deadline Dates *Refer, connect, and help students schedule tutoring appointments via website or tutoring staff *Assist Pasos staff and center initiatives *Restock the Pasos Food Pantry and Micro Food Pantry and support the Peer Mentor Senior in food inventory *Support data collection and entry in TutorTrac in collaboration with Peer Leads, including but not limited to: oEnsuring students are signing into TutorTrac when they first enter the Pasos Resource Center *Maintain a clean and professional work environment, including but not limited to oDisinfecting tables, chairs, desks, keyboards, counter space, etc. oWatering plants *Attending weekly training sessions outlined by CRLA curriculum

Preferred Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: *Work-Study eligibility required *Commitment to the process and willingness to give their time and energy to mentoring *Successful completion of first year in college *Ability to attend weekly CRLA training sessions Preferred Qualifications: *Strong interest in supporting UNM students in their higher educational pursuits *Sophomore standing (30 credit hours or more) *Experience in leadership or mentoring *Previous community or campus involvement (Volunteering, Phi Theta Kappa, Student Government, student organizations, etc.) *Bilingual/Ability to read, write, and communicate in both Spanish and English *Ability to work effectively as a team member *Demonstrated ability to role model and provide examples of personal goal setting and ability to overcome barriers in making academic progress *Effective communication, empathy, and sensitivity skills
