Job Summary

As the Program Manager for the Business Architecture Program within Information Technology (IT), this position is responsible for overall program planning and execution, analytical support of business solution implementations, system road-mapping, and system operations through the effective use of information technology capabilities that enable the achievement of business operational, tactical, and strategic goals.

They will be leading a high impact and high visibility program within IT, to deliver advanced business and technical architecture proposals to meet business needs, and will enable technology innovation initiatives across IT. This position requires strong skills in program and project management; enterprise, business and application architecture; teaming, collaboration, influencing, and technical analysis. The program manager is responsible for stewarding critical enterprise investments and driving the delivery of transformational change by providing leadership and direction to the Business Architecture Program.

This position will interact with all levels of IT management and staff and will work with a high degree of independence and decision-making. The position will lead technology assessment and solutioning efforts and initiatives, working with cross functional teams and subject matter experts throughout the delivery process. Highly effective leadership and communication skills with diverse audiences is essential. May be required to work outside traditional business hours to meet critical needs of the Innovation Technology division.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Bachelor degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or similar, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Relevant PM certification or education (PMP or equivalent), or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Significant experience as Technical Program Manager independently leading large scale, enterprise-impacting IT programs.
  • Significant experience in an academic or industry research environment*
  • Experience with multiple IT Infrastructure technologies (e.g. Cloud, Databases, Servers, Storage, etc.).
  • Experience working with multiple business and clinical departments and associated processes and technologies
  • Familiarity with state and federal protected data laws in the academic and healthcare industry, including CCPA, HIPAA, 21 CFR part 11, FISMA
  • Recognizes the need to maintain security of confidential information; exercise judgment, tact, and discretion in handling sensitive or confidential information or situations.
  • Proven track record of leading in a matrixed organization.
  • Proven ability to build and lead integrated teams from various internal and external organizations across multiple sites.
  • Adept at helping team members harness and develop strengths in pursuit of successful program outcomes.
  • Ability to promote innovative ideas and accept the risks that are required to lead change.
  • Ability to achieve broadly communicated objectives with a minimal amount of direction and supervision.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and personal initiative and accept responsibility for decision and actions.
  • Proven problem-solving, decision-making, and financial skills.
  • Effective consultative and influencing approach.
  • Proven ability to enact change quickly.

  • Excellent communicator; comfortable and effective in opening channels of communication, listening to others, and cultivating a healthy, productive, and ongoing dialogue. Able to communicate with all levels within and outside of IT, include application and technology vendors.
  • Applied knowledge of project management tools and templates.
  • Detailed knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, and other tools in the Microsoft Office suite

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Information Science or Computer Science - or equivalent significant industry leadership expertise. - or equivalent significant industry project leadership expertise.
  • Experience with business processes and IT technology in an Academic Medical Center environment.
  • Experience with integrated multi-vendor environments.
  • Experience leading projects with contractors/consultants.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Health System and University policies and procedures

Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
