Purpose of the Role

The Surveyor Lead provides leadership, technical direction, and oversight for all surveying activities across assigned projects or project phases. This role ensures that surveying operations are executed accurately, efficiently, and in alignment with Worley's engineering and construction standards, customer specifications, and sustainability principles.
By managing a team of skilled surveyors and technicians, the Surveyor Manager supports project delivery from planning and design through construction and commissioning - ensuring data precision, safety, and operational excellence consistent with Worley's mission of delivering a more sustainable world.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the project surveying team to deliver accurate field measurements, layouts, and data collection in support of engineering, construction, and asset management activities.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain survey procedures, standards, and quality control measures that align with project specifications and Worley's corporate requirements.

  • Coordinate surveying requirements with engineering, project controls, and construction teams to ensure timely and accurate delivery of data for design, layout, and verification.

  • Oversee the review and approval of survey reports, drawings, and field documentation to confirm precision and compliance with project and industry standards.

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to survey staff, ensuring consistency in data collection methods, instrumentation use, and safety practices.

  • Plan, assign, and monitor work to optimize team productivity and ensure the effective use of equipment, technology, and personnel resources.

  • Collaborate with project management and clients to define survey scopes, methodologies, and deliverables, and address any technical or schedule-related challenges.

  • Ensure survey data is integrated accurately into engineering design and construction models, supporting digital workflows and data-centric project delivery.

  • Maintain and safeguard all survey-related records, instruments, and digital data for traceability and audit purposes.

  • Promote and uphold Worley's commitment to safety, quality, sustainability, and innovation in all survey operations.

  • Participate in the planning and execution of continuous improvement initiatives, contributing to more efficient and sustainable survey practices across projects.

Qualifications / Skillset
  • University degree or equivalent qualification in surveying, geomatics, civil engineering, or a related technical field. Equivalent work experience combined with professional certification may be considered.

  • Extensive experience in land, construction, or engineering surveying, including demonstrated leadership in managing field survey teams within large-scale industrial or infrastructure projects.

  • Advanced technical knowledge of surveying instruments, GPS/GNSS systems, laser scanning, and digital data processing technologies.

  • Strong understanding of geospatial principles, coordinate systems, mapping standards, and integration with engineering and construction models.

  • Proven ability to interpret and apply engineering drawings, specifications, and project documentation.

  • Skilled in analyzing survey data, detecting inconsistencies, and implementing corrective actions to ensure data reliability and accuracy.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across engineering, construction, and client teams.

  • Proficiency with survey and CAD software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, Trimble Business Center, or equivalent platforms.

  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities with an emphasis on safety and quality assurance.
