Student Employee, Student Wellness and Support Assistant

Job Description:

If you're passionate about creating inclusive, welcoming environments, promoting mental health and holistic wellness, and helping to advance equity across campus, this role is for you. As a Wellness & Support Assistant, you will serve as an ambassador for the Center for Student Wellness and Support (CSWS), helping to ensure students feel seen, supported, and connected. You'll assist with daily center operations, student outreach, and event coordination while contributing to a culture of care and belonging at Joliet Junior College.

POSITION TITLE: Student Employee, Student Wellness and Support Assistant

STATUS: Part-time

DEPARTMENT: Center for Student Wellness and Support

DIVISION: Student Development

REPORTS TO: Director, Center for Student Wellness and Support

CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt

MINIMUM PAY RATE: $15.00 per hour
(Position is FWS Eligible)

ESSENTIALJOBDUTIESANDKEYRESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as the first point of contact for students and visitors, providing a warm, professional, and trauma-informed welcome.
  • Offer accurate information about CSWS programs, counseling services, and wellness resources.
  • Maintain a calm, inclusive, and respectful environment aligned with the mission of student wellness and support.
  • Maintain cleanliness and support the smooth daily functioning of shared wellness spaces (e.g., lobby, Zen Den, Wolves Essentials Pantry).
  • Handle sensitive information in accordance with HIPAA and institutional confidentiality standards.
  • Collaborate on social-media content, flyers, newsletters, and promotional materials to raise awareness of wellness initiatives.
  • Support events, workshops, and campus-wide campaigns focused on mental health, inclusion, and basic-needs access.
  • Engage with students at tabling events and presentations to connect them to available services.
  • Assist with tracking outreach, event attendance, and utilization data to support program evaluation and improvement.
  • Contribute creative ideas to strengthen the center's visibility and student engagement.
  • Participate in staff meetings and professional development opportunities as assigned.
  • Provide administrative and project assistance to the Director and staff as needed.
  • Perform related other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. GPA of 2.0 or above.

2. Must be enrolled at JJC in at least 6 credit hours.

3. High School diploma or equivalent.

4. Excellent Customer Service skills.

5. Strong verbal and written communication skills.

6. Attentiveness to detail, excellent organizational skills, initiative, and multitasking.

7. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Willingness to work a flexible schedule.

2. Demonstrated multicultural competence.

3. English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

1. Ability to kneel, bend, or lift to assist with maintaining shared spaces.

2. Capacity to lift and move light equipment as needed.

3. Walk to different areas around Main campus

WORKING CONDITIONS

Scheduled Weekly Hours: This is a student employee position that works around your class schedule. May work up to 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters. During summer and holiday breaks (Winter/Spring), may work up to 28 hours per week with supervisor approval.
