The Quality Management Office (QMO) works with line organizations on developing and delivering programs, activities, and services that integrate quality assurance, environmental, and safety management principles throughout the Laboratory. The Integrated Planning, Assessment, and Improvement Group, within the QMO, assists line organizations and Management System Stewards/Executives in planning and executing assessment activities, manages the Integrated Assessment Plan for the institution, as well as the Lab's Independent Oversight function, and provides training to qualify BNL staff in conducting self-assessments.

Position Overview:

The QMO has an immediate opening for an experienced Lead Assessor/ Integrated Assessment Specialist. This position will lead and/or participate as an independent assessor in independent assessments and special studies within research and operational environments. This position is also responsible for the Management System (MS) Performance Monitoring and Assessment Plan (PMAP) process, which serves as the foundation for MS performance monitoring and associated assessment activities. Additionally, this position will assist in managing the Laboratory's Integrated Assessment Plan, engage with appropriate Brookhaven Site Office (BHSO) counterparts and may engage with the Battelle Integrated Performance Management Community of Practice as needed. This position reports to the Integrated Planning, Assessment, and Improvement Group Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide input to assessment planning that identifies significant areas of risk and the assessment approach that will best serve management.

  • Develop assessment methodologies and approaches in preparing assessment plans, develop assessment criteria, coordinate logistics, prepare assessment reports, and brief management on assessment results.

  • Interpret regulations and assess means of meeting requirements in a diverse operational and research environment.

  • Collect performance data through interviews, document reviews, observations, and inspections.

  • Work on multiple concurrent assessments as team lead, team member, and/or independent assessor to meet goals and deadlines of each.

  • Motivate and lead multidisciplinary assessment teams, engaging effectively with personnel from a variety of backgrounds and levels of knowledge to achieve assigned goals.

  • Make professional judgments on the adequacy and effectiveness of processes, systems, and programs. Evaluate performance to standards and management expectations.

  • Provide assessment deliverables and communicate results in a clear, concise, and timely manner to appropriate level(s) of management.

  • Facilitate the initiation and completion of the annual Management System (MS) Performance Monitoring and Assessment Plan (PMAP) process, providing guidance, support, and feedback to MS Stewards/Executives.

  • Support the development and monitor the Laboratory's Integrated Assessment Plan.

  • Provide oversight (bi-annually) of the self-assessment process implementation.

  • Interface with all levels of Laboratory management and the Brookhaven Site Office (BHSO) regarding assessments and related processes.

  • Support the Laboratory's Enterprise Risk Management process.

  • Promote operational excellence and foster a learning and improvement culture.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering discipline or closely related field of study plus at least three years of full-time professional experience in quality management related field such Quality Assurance, Quality Control, or process improvement

  • Demonstrated experience leading interdisciplinary assessments

  • Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to synthesize results into clearly written documents

  • Excellent interpersonal communication and team building skills

  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Seven plus years of full-time professional experience in quality management related field

  • Master's degree

  • American Society for Quality (ASQ) Certified Quality Auditor (CQA)

  • Trained Causal Analyst (e.g., BlueDragon, Taproot root cause methodology)

  • Familiarity with BNL's Integrated Operational Performance System (IOPS)

  • NQA-1 knowledge/experience

This is a multi-level role and the full salary range for this position is $92300 - $129983 / year. You will be placed at the level and salary commensurate with your experience. Salary offers will be commensurate with the final candidate's qualification, education and experience and considered with the internal peer group.
