The Opportunity:

The College of Arts and Humanities (CAH) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for 3 tenure-earning, 9-month, assistant professors to teach Creative Writing (CRW) courses in the English Department. Two of these positions are in fiction and 1 is in poetry. These positions will be located on the UCF main campus with an anticipated start date in August 2026.

Creative Writing faculty are expected to publish regularly in their field; teach a 2/3 course load in our undergraduate CRW major (online and in-person) and/or our graduate MFA program based on our current workload policy; direct MFA thesis projects and serve on thesis committees; mentor and advise CRW students; and provide service to the department, university, and community.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • An MFA, doctoral, or other terminal degree in English, Creative Writing, or a related discipline from an accredited institution is required by the time of appointment.
  • A demonstrated record of achievement in publishing creative writing, teaching creative writing, and service.
  • A significant record of publication in top-tier journals or by established publishers in their specialty genre(s).

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Secondary publication and teaching record in nonfiction (memoir, personal essay, etc.) for at least 1 of these positions.
  • Experience teaching in multiple and hybrid genres and/or editing/publishing.
  • Experience teaching students from various backgrounds.

  • A curriculum vitae.
  • A letter of interest describing qualifications for the position, such as research agenda and teaching experience/interest. The letter should also specify which position the candidate is applying for (fiction or poetry) as well as addressing the candidate's ability to serve a student body at a large, public university that is also a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI).
  • A writing sample (20 pages double-spaced maximum).
  • A teaching philosophy statement (1-2 pages).
  • A syllabus for a creative writing course taught and/or designed.

The selected candidate will be required to submit official transcripts (and, as applicable, U.S. degree equivalency evaluations) documenting the conferral of their qualifying academic credentials.
