Overview
TDS Inc. is seeking a knowledgeable and proactive Windows Systems Administrator. This role is responsible for managing and supporting the Microsoft Windows Server platform, ensuring stability, security, and performance across our infrastructure. Following established standards, the Windows Systems Administrator will oversee hardware, operating systems, productivity tools, systems-related products, and virtualization technologies. The role includes documenting, installing, monitoring, patching, planning, securing, supporting, and troubleshooting Windows Server environments.
Responsibilities
Support & Routine Maintenance Activities
Create and follow established documentation, processes, and team standards.
- Review and update documentation to align with security organization requirements.
- Perform daily monitoring of operating systems, hardware, and systems-related products.
- Resolve technical issues and provide support for hardware, OS, and related systems.
- Apply configuration changes, fixes, and patches as needed.
- Ensure successful server backups and perform recovery tasks; participate in Business Continuity Exercises.
- Monitor and plan for adequate server capacity.
- Support and potentially manage virtualization platforms.
- Participate in an on-call rotation.
Design, Development & Project-Related Activities
- Assist with implementation and upgrades of hardware, OS, and systems-related products.
- Conduct performance, regression, and system testing.
- Participate in procurement processes as needed.
- Generate standard metrics and performance reports.
Planning Activities
- Develop technical designs and system requirements.
- Create system integration plans.
- Determine hardware and software specifications for compatibility.
Qualifications
Required Job Qualifications
- Associate's degree or 2+ years of professional work experience
- 3+ years of experience with Microsoft Windows Server operating system including drivers, file systems, monitoring, networking, and tools
Other Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related discipline preferred.
- Experience working with Microsoft Windows, client technologies, and enterprise software applications
- Understanding and experience managing core Windows Server technologies: Active Directory, DFS, DHCP, DNS, group policy, Microsoft Configuration Manager (SCCM), and public key infrastructure
- Understanding virtualization as a platform and managing virtual machines in environments such as Microsoft Hyper-V, Nutanix, or VMware
- Proficiency with Powershell for automation and scripting purposes
- Basic understanding of authentication and security technologies such as Kerberos, LDAP, multifactor authentication (MFA), and SAML
- Basic understanding of cloud computing concepts such as Microsoft Azure and M365
- Basic understanding of distributed computing concepts, networking, relational database structure, server storage systems, and virtualization
- Basic understanding of business continuity concepts
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills
- Strong technical aptitude, creativity, customer service skills, and initiative
- Ability to interact effectively with customers and exhibit professional interpersonal skills. Able to handle the most difficult customer situations with diplomacy and tact
- Solid work ethic and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
- Capable of performing tasks in dynamic situations and, under stress, optimizing availability of system services to the business. Able to handle difficult situations or uncertainty with a positive attitude
- Ability to absorb and implement new technologies and procedures. Ability to apply that technology creatively to meet business needs

Physical Demands and Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, write and operate a computer keyboard, standard office equipment and telephone. The employee regularly communicates with customers. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee may occasionally have to work in a loud facility (data center).
