Position Summary

The Department of Economics at the University of New Mexico invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Development Economics to begin in August 10, 2026. This is a full-time, tenure-track position in Economics. Applicants must have a PhD in Economics or a related field by date of appointment (August 10, 2026). For best consideration, all application materials must be received by November 15, 2025.

The successful applicant must demonstrate evidence of primary research interests in development economics. The new faculty member will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in development economics, supervise masters and doctoral students, and contribute to core, required undergraduate and graduate courses.
Qualifications

Minimum

  1. Ph.D. in economics or closely related field by start date of appointment
  2. Demonstrated research interest in Development Economics

Preferred

  1. Potential to develop a nationally visible research program.
  2. Demonstrated or potential ability to teach undergraduate and Ph.D. courses in Development Economics.
  3. Demonstrated or potential ability to teach undergraduate and Ph.D. courses in Econometrics and Statistics.
  4. Research and teaching interests that either complement or deepen the work of the department's current faculty.
  5. A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities.
