Posting Summary
Professional Tutor - Specializing in Mathematics
This role is dedicated to helping students master course content, develop effective study habits, and build confidence in their academic abilities. The tutor collaborates with the Assistant Director of Student Academic Support to ensure comprehensive academic support services are delivered in alignment with university goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide Individual and Group Tutoring: Support students one-on-one or in small groups with understanding and applying concepts in algebra, pre-calculus, and calculus, as well as other mathematics, statistics, and science courses as needed. Assist students in solving problems, reviewing homework, and preparing for exams.
Facilitate Learning and Skill Development: Demonstrate problem-solving techniques, review key mathematical principles, and guide students in developing effective study skills, learning strategies, and test-taking approaches.
Academic Counseling: Assist students to overcome challenges with course materials, assignments, and exam preparation. Encourage independent learning and persistence in academic goals.
Administrative Duties: Schedule tutoring appointments, prepare communications, maintain accurate records of student interactions and interventions, and track student progress over time.
Collaboration and Training: Work with the Assistant Director of Student Academic Support to assess student needs, contribute to the development of academic support programs, and assist in training peer tutors and facilitating academic workshops.
Other Duties: Perform additional support-related tasks as assigned to promote the Center for Learning and Student Success services, programs, activities, and events.
FLSA Nonexempt
Salary Details A range of $25.00-$28.00 per hour.

Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience
Requires a bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Also requires a minimum of three to five years of relevant professional experience in an administrative and/or supervisory function, excellent communication skills, and computer literacy.

Requires a bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education/experience in the discipline. A master's degree in a specialized discipline may be required, particularly in research, project management or managerial positions. Also requires a minimum of five years experience and/or increasing functional responsibility in a leadership/managerial role. With a master's degree requirement, a minimum of three years of related experience is acceptable. Excellent communication skills and computer literacy.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Science, Education, or a related field (Master's preferred).
* Demonstrated proficiency in algebra, pre-calculus, and calculus, as well as other mathematics and science subjects.
* Prior tutoring or teaching experience at the college level is highly desirable.
* Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
* Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff in a diverse academic environment.
* Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning atmosphere.
* Experience with academic support software and online tutoring platforms.
* Training or experience in peer tutor development and workshop facilitation.
* Knowledge of learning strategies and study skills development.
This position requires in-person and virtual tutoring sessions, with flexible scheduling to accommodate student needs.
