Role Description:

The summer intern will work directly with mentor(s) within Downstream Process Development and the mAb Prep Laboratory of Zoetis Veterinary Medicine Research and Development. The mentor(s) will act as liaison, mentor, guide, and coach through all aspects of training, project research, and the final report and template drafting.

DOWNSTREAM PROCESS DEVELOPMENT INTERN

Location: City, State: Kalamazoo, Michigan

Internship Summary:

Under the direction of the mentor(s), perform downstream process development (DSPD) related activities supporting biologic product recovery from bioreactors. The incumbent will evaluate, analyze, and summarize experimental results, then present research findings at the end of the internship term to a wider audience.

Internship Job Duties:

  • Work with a technical liaison in a mentor/mentee team approach.
  • Perform early downstream unit operations focusing on filtration technologies for product isolation.
  • Apply scale-down principles to effectively perform routine manufacturing processes at bench scale.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and cross functional SMEs to execute DSP experiments ensuring timely completion of experiments.

Internship Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college/university and pursuing an undergraduate degree (junior/senior year) in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Chemical/Biochemical Engineering, or related disciplines.
  • Overall GPA of 3.0 or higher is required.
  • Must demonstrate excellent attention to detail and big-picture focus through a strong, conscientious work ethic.
  • Theoretical knowledge and background in macromolecule (protein, antibody) purification using various modes of chromatography is required. Practical experience is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of cell biology and hands-on experience with suspension cell culture will be highly considered.

The following hourly pay rates reflect the anticipated base pay for this position:

If the selected candidate is a student pursuing an Associate-level degree: $16.00 per hour

If the selected candidate is a student pursuing an Undergraduate-level degree: $22.00 per hour

If the selected candidate is a student pursing a Graduate-level degree: $32.50 per hour

If the selected candidate is a student pursuing a Doctorate-level degree: $36.00 per hour

The following hourly pay rates reflect the anticipated base pay for this position if a selected candidate were to be located in California, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Illinois (Chicago area), Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Washington (Seattle area):

Student pursuing an Associate-level degree: $17.00 per hour

Student pursuing an Undergraduate-level degree: $24.20 per hour

Student pursing a Graduate-level degree: $36.40 per hour

Student pursuing a Doctorate-level degree: $40.30 per hour
