A Brief Overview
Under the direction of the Radiology Director of Clinical Operations, manages the day-to-day operations of the Fetal Ultrasound department. Maintain an unbiased decision-making process between OB and Radiology

What you will do

  • Performs clinical work as dictated by patient volumes and staffing levels. (See Fetal US Technologist II Job Description)
  • Devises and maintains protocols for the Fetal US Division.
  • Prepares and delivers lectures and/or publications relating to Fetal US within and outside the institution if requested by the physicians
  • Maintains training and competency in high-level disinfection procedures as outlined by the Department of Infection Control and Radiology
  • Oversee schedules, verifications, documents, reports, relationships, and work product.
  • Oversee prioritization, quality, resources, supplies, processes and facilities (must stay within budgetary constraints).
  • Plan and evaluate the use of staff, resources for departmental programs and services.
  • Ensure adherence to regulations, safety standards, policies and procedures.
  • Maintain logs and records, equipment maintenance, and orders supplies.
  • Organizes work and provides direct supervision to subordinates.
  • Assist in hiring, training and reviewing performance of staff.
  • Identify and implement training opportunities to help the staff better meet standards.
  • Complete all mandatories in set time frame
  • Identify areas of growth for staff.
  • Collaborate with department director to identify and address staff deficiencies.
  • Manage employee relations of staff and keep director informed.
  • Collaborate with Director regarding new strategies and strategic initiatives for continued growth.
  • Participates collaboratively in staff meetings, committees, projects and teams and assists in resolving conflict and meets goals.
  • Through collaboration with Medical Physicist and designated section Radiologist, facilitates ACR accreditation of Ultrasounds through submission of clinical and phantom images, and scanning protocol.
  • Updates Ultrasounds protocols as needed with designated section Radiologist and Medical Physicist.
  • May observe and monitor the quality of images, prepare reports based on activities.
  • In partnership with the Radiology Director, oversees key Ultrasound processes which ensure the timeliness of order response, exam completing, and results reporting.
  • Projects staffing workload requirements for technical area.
  • Assists in hiring, evaluating, scheduling and disciplining personnel as needed. Supervises the orientation of new employees to include equipment, department and hospital policies, protocols and procedures.
  • Monitors division expenditures while maintaining and supporting the Radiology budgetary constraints.
  • Approves and monitors patient scheduling to insure flow and safety 100% of the time.
  • Directs activities of technical staff to maintain integrity and efficiency of the Radiology Information System.
  • Inventories, orders and receives division supplies to maintain operations within budgetary constraints.
  • Develops, implements, and enforces hospital and department policies and procedures.
  • Performs clinical work as dictated by patient volumes and staffing levels. (See US Staff Technologist Job Description).
  • Devises and maintains QA protocols and criteria for the Fetal US Division.
  • Knowledge of all types of Ultrasound imaging, fetal ultrasound imaging, and maternal fetal medicine imaging and procedures.
  • Responsible to attend meetings/special assignments that are directly related to this position in Radiology.
  • Involved with specific committees (e.g. Quality Assurance, Trauma Committee, etc.)
  • Prepares and delivers lectures and/or publications relating to Fetal US within and outside the institution.
  • Holds monthly staff meetings for Fetal US personnel.
  • Responsible for maintaining the continuing education required for this position.

Education Qualifications

  • High School Diploma / GED - Required
  • Technical Diploma Ultrasound - Required
  • Bachelor's Degree - Preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • At least ten (10) years maternal fetal medicine/obstetrical Ultrasound - Required
  • At least five (5) years supervisory experience - Required
  • Pediatric Experience - Preferred

Licenses and Certifications

  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonography - OBGYN Specialty - American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) - upon hire - Required and
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) - issued through on organization that requires a hands-on instructor lead psychomotor skills verification (ex. American Heart Association or Red Cross). - within 12 months - Required
  • Pediatric Sonography (PS) - American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) - upon hire - Preferred
  • Ultrasound Certification - American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) - upon hire - Preferred

SALARY RANGE:
