Nexus Family Healing is looking to hire a HR Assistant to join our newest youth crisis and stabilization center set to open in fall 2025 in Hennepin County! This new youth crisis and stabilization center is a 13-bed, short-term residential service is for Hennepin County youth with complex mental and behavioral health issues looking for appropriate care. The service will help to reduce the number of youth who are stuck in inappropriate care settings such as emergency rooms, police stations, juvenile detention or unstable home situations and provide treatment and therapeutic supports while triage, assessment, and transition planning take place with families. Position Summary: Our Human Resource (HR) Assistant I supports the assigned agency's HR function by facilitating and administering new employee orientation, maintaining compliant personnel files, and serving as a backup to the agency HR Coordinator in additional HR functions as required. This position will perform all HR duties in accordance with Nexus policy, federal and state laws, and generally accepted principles and practices. Primary responsibilities: Employee Onboarding
- Administers pre-employment activities; facilitates candidates through drug and background checks and documents and communicates results to HR Coordinator and Recruiter.
- Prepares for new employee orientation; secures orientation room, collates materials and employee paperwork.
- Facilitates new employee orientation by connecting with new employees and delivering Nexus approved orientation PowerPoint that outlines Nexus' mission, values, and employee responsibilities.
- Follows employee onboarding checklist ensuring new hires have been trained on timekeeping and have completed new hire paperwork including I-9s thoroughly and compliantly.
Employee Timekeeping & Payroll
- Supports HR and Agency leaders by ensuring all employees have time entered each pay period and follows up directly with leaders and employees to ensure the agency is prepared for payroll.
- Serves as agency backup for payroll processing ensuring employee PTO is entered on time; follows up with employees and leaders as needed and works with Nexus home office to submit payroll by deadline.
Employee Personnel Files, Reporting & Compliance
- Updates and generates various employee reports at the request of HR Coordinator, HR Manager, and agency leaders.
- Supports and ensures HR file preparation need for compliance audits as requested.
- Performs all HR and administrative functions in compliance with company policies, state and federal law and licensing requirements regarding employee and/or resident privacy and confidentiality.
- Maintains the agency's employee personnel, medical and benefit files; follows a consistent process to ensure, securely and confidentially, the integrity of employee information and facilitate changes as needed.
Agency Support
- Provides support to employees by responding to questions; ensures prompt resolution and escalates questions and issues as needed.
- Serves as the backup to the Reception Desk to ensure coverage during the expected hours of operation.
- Assists agency and home office HR leaders with correspondences, communication, tasks, and HR support work; performs work with attention to detail, follow through and a sense of urgency.
Requirements
Required Education and Licensure:
- High School Diploma.
- Minimum of 1 year experience supporting the HR function with 50 or more employees.
- Minimum of 2 years experience working with MS Office products including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Valid driver's license required. Must meet state regulating agency and Nexus Home Office driving requirements.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Associates degree in HR or a related field.
- 3+ years experience supporting the HR function.
- 1+ years experience processing payroll.
